Oden abandoned his country twice.
Toki herself asked Oden to leave and continue his journey.
Oden wanted to stay, Toki who came from past, came for a reason.
Oden is loved for abandoning his family and country?
How does that work.
Oden and Xebec are two sides of a coin.
hate for Oden only remained because he outlived his stay in manga.
- Xebec was kept as mystery compared to oden.
- Yamato being forced down on us oden 2.0 made it worse.
Legends like Kaidou Look up to Oden and Xebec in the same light in terms of monstrosity.
For me both of the characters are great. I like both of them. Both of them supports my agenda. Atleast I'm honest enough to admit that.
Admirals fans are into this because he actually killed an admiral(Nameless and irrelevent at that, It doesn't hurt any of the current Admirals.), so they portray that as the strongest feat in the series. Because that supports their agenda. They over blowing xebec out of proportions.
He is great, strong.
But so is oden, to the matter of fact, he is more successful than Xebec.
- He acted to save his family when he came back. His vassals supported him.
- Danced naked for his Vassals, which xebec led to death.
- Both of them lost in the end.
Liking Xebec more is just recency bias.
In the end both of them are great character.
For me Oden wasn't ruined like for other here.
- First when everything was fine.
- When he left with whitebeard, Wano was doing completely fine under Sukiyaki
- Second when Orochi took over.
- Oden only came for a brief return. He came to leave toki behind as she was sick. He had greater goals to push at that point. They were the closest to the history of the world.
- Figuring out what other Kozuki didn't. Knew his purpose as a Kozuki, not as a future shogan but there contribution towards History and how they preserved it.
- Skill passed down the clan, for no apparent reason? Sukiyaki never utilised his Ponelglyph reading skill. Nor will momonusuke some day.
- Made a crew for his own benefit and terrorist activities.
- He has killed civilians, kidnapped kings. He is himself no better than a CD in those regards. He only cared for his own family. Selfish, yes, and some people defend it. But you don't March a group people to death for your own benefit. That's a plain shitty move.
- This was fine if it was coming from someone like Kaidou or Doflamingo. But Xebec isn't seen in that light. He is seen as a good guy.
- Pushed them all into God Valley for his own benefit.
- Admitting last chapter that they have nothing to gain here. He still didn't tell that he is here for his own family not his crew or crew motives.
- The confession itself came at a point where imu is standing right in front of them.
- He used the chaos and risking their life to save his family. If Xebec have told them about it, Atleast some would have still followed him. And at that time it would be completely fine. But he is himself acting like a dick.
- On top of that he is giving up on his dreams, his clan what they stand for. He wasn't there to save his grandfather or mother. But just Teach and eris. He failed to protect them in the first place. That's why they were captured.

Oden was the designated ruler of his nation, xebec is not. As the heir to the throne he had certain duties and responsibilities towards his nation which he failed to perform. Multiple times. Xebec on the other hand was born a commoner(of a persecuted clan thus in hiding). He was neither a monarch or an elected representative of his nation thus had no responsibility towards God Valley. So no don't confuse oden with xebec and their departure form their respective nations as similar. If you want to compare oden with some one compare him with Vivi. She is his antithesis. She did right by her country and her people by not only bringing help to her nation but also by staying back even though she wanted to go with the straw hats. Vivi and oden are thematic parallels. Vivi is the better person who didn't make the same mistakes as oden did. And Alabasta was better off because of it.
Xebec was a selfish pirate who wanted to to be the king of the world and took steps in that direction. He left his home alone. He attacked the holy land alone. He met imu without any back up all alone. Unlike oden who needed either whitebeard or roger to spoon-feed him. When reyleigh offered his help to solve wanos problem this guy decides to reject that offer trying to suddenly act indipendent. He had opportunity to make his country better but he didn't. He believed in the bullshit deal given to him by orochi and took the bait of dancing naked in front of everyone like a cuck. I mean how stupid you have to be to believe something like that. He failed to understand that the current predicament of wano was because of him and failed to deliver justice to his people. Sure some hostages would have died but that is the risk a ruler has to take for the greater good. He failed even there. By not taking a decisive action against the danger in front of him he failed to protect anyone.
So comparing xebec who is neither a king nor a ruler of God valley to oden a monarch of wano is showing a lack of reading comprehension on your part.
Xebec trusting harald and chosing him over his crew is not shown to be a wrong move by the story itself(Wang zhi, big mom, shiki type figures would have sold him and his family out to world government in Seconds. Fucking Wang zhi murdered marlon for money). Harald chosing world government over xebec is shown to be the mistake. That costed him his life and now his country is getting attacked by the WG. Xebec had all the right reasons for not trusting his crew(he had no idea who is loyal who is not as most of them were only there for themselves) but what was odens reason for not asking for help from reyleigh and roger when they were willing to help him out by their own admission?
It is not xebecs fault that God valley was attacked by world government. Xebec didn't inform anyone that he was from God valley or that davy people are staying there. It was Garling who somehow discovered the truth and informed imu. If you want to blame anyone blame shanks's mom who Opened her legs than her mouth and probably blabbered the town secret after a nights romp. xebec knows he can't save everyone of his family and if he could save his wife and son that would be enough for him.
Xebec baited his crew with shakky, gold and devil fruits because he knew how his crew was. They would not put there neck in line for xebec's family. And it is not like he forced anyone to join him in this endeavor. He clearly stated if you don't have the guts to go to God valley stay back. Like Wang zhi did. He didn't know that imu would come in God valley. See his expression when he notices the haki. Not like he is forcing anyone to fight imu with him. They all came to get something in God valley. Some gold, some df's and some shakky. They can start to leave right now. You think xebec is going to stop them from escaping?
Never compare xebec with oden.
