What probably happened was, Han had some really strong defensive positions against Renpa (walls etc.) and through that advantage + their own ability, they were able to repel him that one time. Nothing shocking.

In the Oberyn vs Mountain chapter, Tyrion says that Gregor is too damn big to be anyone's toy. And there were times where his greatsword came inches away from getting Oberyn. Who had also prepared a perfect counter style to him.I hadn't realized the kind of badass growth Duncan went through. He went from having not much prowess with swords and such, wrestling his opponents, to defeating Lyonel Baratheon "The Laughing Storm" later in life in a trial by combat.
