I think you can, and that's what Zoro did. Technically, you can use CoC behind basic armament. Luffy already has done it. So you can use CoC both in Level 1, 2, 3 of CoA, but Luffy did it with Level 3, and Zoro did it with Level 2 (like Scabbards).

How does this reconcile with "advanced CoA", or was Luffy just using basic Ryou up until now?
