General & Others 4 years later, how do you feel about the Tobiroppo fights?

#1
Was skimming through some Act 3 chapters earlier and got to the Tobiroppo/Strawhat fights. I remember being extremely excited for these weekly, figuring that they'd be comparable to Ennies Lobby's SH matchups in terms of quality, focus, and power-ups. Obviously, that wasn't the case despite a lot of the fanbase also assuming the fights would fall into Alabasta/Ennies Lobby territory, but whatever.

Can't say I enjoy these any more than I did weekly, even now that I have the context of the full arc. Jinbe/Who's Who is fine, but the rest are serious disappointments and missed opportunities to give the weaker SHs some much needed shine. Seeing them win through such little effort despite appearing to be woefully unequipped to deal with stronger enemies just hurts the Tobiroppo as much as it does the SHs. Things like Sasaki apparently not having Haki and fighting a Haki-less Franky still bug me.

4 years later, and it still hurts that Oda couldn't restrain himself for a little and give these fights 2-3 chapters each instead of 1 just to allow them to develop properly. I can go back and reread the Alabasta/EL fights any day and feel satisfied. I can't do it with these, and I think it's a combination of the cluttered paneling and lack of narrative impact.

Does anyone feel differently? What would you have done differently to make them more impactful?

If it were up to me, I would have had a different member be in other then Drake (probably with a Stegosaurus DF), and then have Chopper face them. And have Nami and Usopp decisively defeat Ulti and Page-One.

There, I'd have Jimbei face either Jack or an actual Ancient Giant who would have been replacement to the Numbers, Robin would face Who's Who instead (allowing her to finally fight a CP9 agent) and Brook gets Black Maria.

Fights should've been longer as they were the lower SHs first real fights since like....preskip. Usopp and Nami vs Ulti and P1 though was dogshit, Brooke should've gotten a 1v1, Franky and Robin were decent, and Jinbe deserved more than WsW(decent fight still though).
Jinbe reasonably couldn't get anyone above or below WsW sadly, him fighting Jack would have been rad but Inu defeating Jack instead honestly made more sense.
He'd lose to Queen on land, so he couldn't fight him, plus Sanji vs Queen just fit better. Same for Zoro vs King.
Honestly he maybe should have helped against Big Mom or something.
And Brook should have fought Apoo (they're both musicians with music based powers.. come on Oda)

Jinbei should’ve fought Jack not Inu or Neko. They already got revenge on Jack at the rooftop together so it was extremely redundant for Inu to fight him again

Seeing a Fishman fight another Fishman would’ve been cool, maybe get some dialogue about Jack’s past, and also put Jinbei solidly as a Commander leve fighter (even tho most would agree he is)

The fights should have lasted more than a chapter.

Jinbei should have fought Jack.

Brook should have fought Who's Who.

Drake was was wasted and should have been replaced by someone else as a Tobiroppo to fight Chopper

And Big Mom certainly shouldn't have beaten Hanafuda's kids for Nami and Usopp.

All in all, Tobiroppo was a massive disappointment, just like everything was in Wano (One Piece's biggest disappointment).

With the total SH Alliances capable fighters way much more that Beast Pirates+BM made it hard to had proper and longer 1vs1.
Instead, if BM full force (be it Peros, Smoothie, Snack) and Kyoshiro stick as villain alongside Orochi, Yamato also loyal to Kaido, then the number could be equal up and proper 1vs1 might possible for each SH especially.
If its as my say here, then the matchup I'll put like this:
Luffy vs Jack (pre war)
Luffy vs Kaido (ACoC final battle)
Zoro vs Kyoshiro (pre war)
Zoro vs Yamato (CoC final battle)
Sanji vs Page One (pre war)
Sanji vs King (Aerial final battle)
Jinbe vs Queen
Robin vs Smoothie
Franky vs Sasaki
Brook vs Snack
Chopper vs Black Maria
Usopp+Nami vs Ulti+Page One
Kid+Law vs Big Mom
Drake vs Who's Who
Killer vs Apoo
Inu+Neko vs Perospero
Kinemon vs Orochi
Kawamatsu vs Kanjurou
Raizo vs Fukurokuju
Kiku vs Shutenmaru
But then, the arc will more drag on longer, and the story will easily predictable.

Back to the thread question, the tobiroppo fights for me:
Who'sWho vs Jinbe: A bit downgrading of Jinbe prowess
Black Maria vs Robin: Good power up showcase of Robin
Sasaki vs Franky: Good and out of the box
Ulti/Page One vs Nami/Usopp: Understandable power gap. Big Mom intrusion is a given
X Drake? Is pathetic and not suit to be among the Worst Generation member.

Franky vs Sasaki was mid

Ulti/P1 was dogshit running around

Robin and Jinbei fights were good tho.

Jack fight was more dogshit than anyone he doesn't do anything we know he's strong yet everytime Oda drew him he's drawn rushing around and getting overpowered by other characters.

Zorp vs King started strong and ended mid

Sanji vs Queen was okay.

In order to defeat Ulti/P1 by weak trio, obviously they need cheap hand tactics.

Zoro vs King, started ok but ended in magnificent.

Sanji vs Queen, doesn't feel the so much threat of Queen towards Sanji
