Future Events Against who will Shanks show off?

We know that Oda is not prone to showing the same thing twice, that's why he uses "off-paneling" so much.
It is a solid narrative device that keeps things from being spoiled before it is time to reveal them.
If he does not use that, he may partially show the capabilities of characters or give only a taste of how they fight.
For example, Gura no Mi was never supposed to be fully revealed on Whitebeard and thus, he had no single named attack.
Gura no Mi is supposed to be fully revealed when Blackbeard fights his last fight, vs Luffy. Not ever before. Same for Yami no Mi.
Franky, for example, got an on-screen fight vs Senor Pink and only used a fraction of his abilities, limiting himself to boxing and suplex.
Even after Sasaki fight, Franky still has to offer more because in that fight he strictly fought using his Shogun.
However, Franky is one of the main characters and that's how they are handled, in every fight, there is something different and unique.
That brings us to Shanks. Where and against who will he get to show all he can do?
He will not get 2 chances, as most side characters are treated.
The options are:
1. In a battle against Kidd pirates, however, the odds are too one-sided in this battle and even if Kidd somehow manages to get Shanks to not use all the troops available and gets him into 1vs1, Kidd is way too underwhelming to drag out of Shanks all he has got.
2. In a battle vs Strawhats against Luffy, however, it is still hard to see this battle happening. SHs and RHPs have never been portrayed to be on a collision course. Also weird that a swordsman is involved in Luffy-type of a fight where both sides land countless hits...
3. In a battle against his nemesis, Marshall D Teach, however, this would mean that Blackbeard also gets to show off all he can do before fighting Luffy and that is a big no-no for Oda. It would take away too much from Luffy vs Blackbeard so it's gotta be something else.
4. In a battle against World Government, Shanks will have his major fight against one of the major executives, perhaps one of the Gorosei, Kong, Garp or maybe he will take part in a fight against Imu himself paralleling Wyper fighting Enel...
5. In a battle against someone else, not listed in the 4 cases above.
Where do you think Shanks will get a chance for a full on-panel battle where all his abilities are displayed?

@nik87 we didn’t see new Blackbeard moves while fighting law, I doubt shanks pull new moves on Kidd.

My guess is Blackbeard or Greenbull which both of them reschedule to fight red hair pirates on another time.
I doubt shanks all the sudden decide go against world government just to show off new feats .

You might be onto something here. He did have that throwaway line - I dont intent to fight RHP, not yet at least...
GB seems to be a swordsman so he might end up Shanks' opponent when Strawhats and RAs make a move on WG.
If that happens and Shanks gets a full on-screen fight with GB, it would mean either CG or BBP will beat RHPs off screen, later on.

It should be versus Kid or Luffy IMO. I would choose Kid here.

But Shanks can challenge Kid to a 1v1 fight for the ponegyphs. After all, Shanks did say he wants to keep damage to Elbaph to a minimum.
My prediction is that, the reason Shanks is bringing his full crew, fleet and allies is to show Kid that there is no point turning it into a crew vs crew battle, because that would be a neg diff unless Oda does usual Loda shenanigans.

Shanks sees kid as a huge threat in which he feels the need to have every advantage possible with his entire fleet and giants, and oda is portraying shanks and kid as pirates that are on the same level. Shanks will be going all out and then eventually he will lose. shanks is not luffys enemy, they will not fight. Shanks fans only want luffy to fight him because they only care about powerscaling, some even want him to be a villain just because it would make him stronger. Those roles are for blackbeard and akainu, not shanks

-Luffy
Imu is the best bet, I completely agree with the Wiper comparison. I hadn't thought of it before, but after seeing that, Shanks' final fight against Imu would be the most satisfying finale for Shanks BY FAR.
Afterall, Skypiea is implied to be a parallel to the final arc of OP against Imu and Gorosei. Shanks could be the Wiper of the final arc.
I would say Luffy vs Shanks fits in thematically very well, but I have similar qualms about it that you do.
Luffy's fights tend to have several exchanges of blows, I don't think Luffy can tank countless attacks from a top tier swordsman like Shanks.
Blackbeard may very well be the one to kill Shanks, but I am confident enough to bet money on it that if that ever happens, it would be a backstab or some underhanded combat.
