Sanji - Water 7 Saga

how said Straw Hat was written
Sanji is explored & used extensively here.

1. At the start he acts as Luffy's advisor.
2. He also empathize with Usopp about being abandoned, hinting his past.
3. He acts as a tactician/spy.
4. He shows his cooking & fighting prowess.
5. Also showcase his decent swordsmanship.
6. We know his incapability of harming female, at the same time a setup for 10+ years old character development.
7. He motivates Usopp & gives great quote.
8. He acts as a hero/savior as usual (Gate of Justice).

got character development and exploration
Character development :
1. We have a hint for his past.
2. Kalifa's scene shows his weakness, a setup for char development much later in Wano.
3. Being saved by Nami will parallel later in Wano.

Character exploration :
1. We know Sanji can use sword.
2. Diable Jambe is inspired (by Wanze) and explained properly (vs Jabra), a result from previous arc's effect (encountering ice based Aokiji).

and how soldid and consistent their portrayal was during the arc ?
Solid & consistent. ALL aspects of Sanji is shown : advisor, spy, tactician, hero, cooking skill, emotional guy, can't hurt women, and a pervert (Nami's love letter scene).

That moment where he patted Usopps shoulder and told him, "there are things you can do that I cant" is always talked about as a good Usopp moment but I think it's mostly just a sanji moment

That speech was Oda telling the readers Usopp will never be strong and ironically Usopp lost two roles after that speech

The Canon role was given to the monster trio because they were strong enough to repel canons

And fixing the ship was no longer needed because Sunny is too tanky

So Usopp lost roles as the crew got stronger despite Oda saying Usopp doesn't need to be strong to be useful

Water 7 was really good for Usopp don't get me wrong but it really did lay out the blueprint for what could go wrong with his character

The peak of Luffy's character was East Blue saga
The peak of Sanji's character was W7 saga
The peak of Zoro's character was Thriller Bark
The peak of Usopp's character was Alabasta or Thriller Bark

The rest peaked in their respective flashback arcs. I will never forgive Oda for what he did to Sanji, Chopper, and Luffy to an extent.

> The Marineford Saga for Luffy (including Sabaody) but Luffy also shined brightly during whole cake.

> There is not a good arc for Zoro as his moment in Shell's town is cool but to shallow. What counts with Zoro are his moments of shine. So I'd say that his best moments so far his the end of during the end of Water Seven. But if we are talking about one specific arc, I'd say Wano. His relationship with Yasue was cool.

> Nami obviously shined on Arlong Park. her character arc is still one of the best to date.

> Usopp shined obviously during Orange town, but he really performed during Water-Seven Enies Lobby. His evolution during this arc was amazing. And we can't forget what happened on Dressrosa

> Sanji had a LOT of good moments, but whole cake was just build different. The writing of Sanji during whole Cake, especially the first 3third was impeccable.

> Chopper's best arc is clearly Drum but he had really a good place in Punk Hazard especially concerning the realization of his powerlessness in front of the impact of Drugs.

> Robin's arc is water Seven and Enies Lobby, but her role during Skypiea and Alabsata were cool !

> Franky shined during Water Seven of course but he did very good on Dressrosa

> Brook shined during Thriller Bark obviously, but he was an MVP during Whole cake. He really took the cake there (get it ?)

> Jinbe most shined during the Marineford Sage but he was very interesting on Whole cake too.

> Carrot killed everything on whole cake but she completely blew everything away on Elb.. what ?

?
Yeah, all shallow moments like his sacrificing himself to Kuma for Luffy at the end of Thriller Bark, right after having proven against Ryuma's shadow that he's worthy of the bushido path, and then, the very next arc, deciding to sideline his very swordsmanship dream, again, for the sake of his captain, and beg his rival to train him.

Thise is not a shallow moment.

The only shallow one is during shell's town (which is what I said literally) which is logical, this was the beginning of the serie, it was a small scale arc.

Orange town -> syrup village
That might be true. The story of Shushu moved me a lot (but I loved the story of Usopp)
