Current Events Big Mom’s “Mother Mode” is some of the worst writing in all of One Piece...

#22
Who is Momonosuke to her? Why should she care about someone who holds no relevance to her?

It's called "Mother" mode. Tama helped Big Mom when she had amnesia, and thus she developed a bond with her, so when Big Mom sees Tama, her motherly instincts take over.

Zeus straight up says this is something that sometimes happens.

So obviously when it does emerge it has to make sense. Why would Mother mode come out with someone Big Mom has no connection to? That wouldn't make any sense.
Because it was explained that this mode comes out only when bm is near kids under 8 years, momo is under 8yo, why didnt bm have respects for him, and makes fun of him? Because BS.

Again, the keyword here is "SOMETIMES" comes out.

So when it does come out, it has to be in a logical situation. Coming out when she sees Momo, who has no connection to her character in the slightest, makes no sense.

That’s a non-sequitor. You won’t find bad writing like this in Avatar the Last Airbender or the OG Star Wars for instance.
Oh yeah, the same OG SW where Luke remembers has Jedi powers only when is convenient, where Leila that “somehow” always knew that Luke was her brother and that seems unfazed by the revelation that the second evilest man in the galaxy is her father. The same OG Star Wars where carebears with spears put on their knees the soldiers of the most technologically advanced army in the galaxy... oh yeah, that’s really flawless writing :seriously:

One Piece is a fictional story for guys in their early teens: the earliest you realise it the earliest you will stop behaving like a kid in primary school whose daddy didn’t buy him the ice-cream.
This is one of the worst arguments trying to defend One Piece I’ve ever seen. So because it’s a fictional story that means we can’t criticize it?

Yea I didn't enjoy Oda's choice, at least for now, we will see. This mode seems too random. I understand there are presumably implications with Big Mom's past and mother carmel probably, but it looks too contrived if you asked.

Truly made me laugh like I was delirious when I read it, I couldn’t believe Oda really tried to spoon feed this to us like it made perfect sense...imagine if Hitler could rend a soul from someone’s body and actively crushed anyone who faced him, but still had a soft spot for defenseless Jewish kids. “Cognitive dissonance” hardly begins to cover how utterly horrendous this narrative choice is :kaidowhat:

the dichotomy is beyond me

but ig as an audience we'll have to take it from the perspective oda's serving this plot from...

the point is BM is a mentally retarded while Hitler wasn't.

that aspect of her may justify oda's choice here

I honestly thought the spoilers for the chapter were fake. I couldn’t believe Oda would write something this garbage...

Could you imagine if that happened in this arc. The Sunny becoming sentient and saving the crew. This place would be chaos and people would want to crucify Oda.
A beautiful, sentimental send off for a longtime character who meant a great deal to the Straw Hats and the fandom...compared to a poorly written villain with the dumbest weak point of any combatant here or beyond...nah, this ain’t it, man. I see what you’re saying, but Merry coming to life isn’t that bizarre considering all we’ve seen in this series; hell, the woman we’re discussing in this very thread can enliven inanimate objects at will. The difference here is that a previously unmentioned character flaw could theoretically turn the tide of the entire war, whereas Merry didn’t start kicking Rob Lucci’s ass in Luffy’s place, it just made it to the right place at the right time and gave everyone a landing spot.
