Originally Epic of Gilgamesh was based on the life of the great sumerian King, it isn't a story on its own but rather the exaggerated version of the real history. The biggest advancements in literature have happened in the last 300/400 years, it is ridicules to bring up Epic of Gilgamesh and use it for your argument. If there were no rules in literature then we would have indeed never moved beyond Epic of Gilgamesh, but humans are smart creatures, although it took as some time but we figured out the human nature from which those exact rules drive from; just like the rules of physics drive from the mather nature. This things are interconnected, just like the psychologists use storytelling to understand human nature, the writers use human nature to understand storytelling. I have a suspicion that you're desperately trying to look smart, I'd suggest you to stop doing that.

The conditions were that it sometimes comes out around young children, not “comes out whenever Fat Retard sees child she is fond of”. The first one makes some level of sense given that Carmel pretended to be an all-loving mother, even to children who weren’t hers. Literature is not science, it doesn’t advance, it just changes in order to reflect the society, but society is made by humans, and there are traits that humans will always retain, thus every work of art that represents human nature is truly universal.
Dante and Shakespeare wrote 800 and 400 years ago and they are still the absolute peak of poetry and tragedy.

Or the slaves Kaido told on her face he was gonna turn the entire Wano into a labor source?
I would be fine with this side of BM if this would be shown as BM's key features in WCI or even Wano during the Olin state, instead of amnesia writing it as mother mode. big mom will never injure/harm or kill her kids for no reason. They are her future fighters and crew that will help her achieve her goals and become pirate queen ...they are just tools for her and in her POV it’s stupid to damage those tools for no reason.
BM mother mode would never make sense because of her childs and grandchilds but because of her past only. Until now she doesn't understand what happenened at that day she ended up alone. Would make perfectly sense for her to be kind to kids near that age.
But like some already stated here, is too late for that. Literally no previous interations of BM supports that.
