He's definitely turning more and more into a Gary Stu. The editor suggesting he lose his arm was one of the best decisions
made in hindsight. Although I do like that Oda is still making them look like ruthless Pirates that don't play around at least.

It's inevitable. People been waiting for this dude for 20+ years so Oda has to deliver. He and his wanked crew surely won't get humiliated or lose in the first on-screen battle, it makes no sense.

The fight being competitive is still regarded as a loss for majority of the fanbase so i dunno what Oda is doing here.

But that is different from a true Mary Sue, try to watch/read Sword art online or Solo leveling, those MCs are true Mary Sue, whatever they do they are perfect and everybody around them is just there to chant their greatness. Shanks for sure has some elements of a Mary Sue but a plethora of other characters are likewise: Luffy and he being the 2nd coming of Jesus, Zoro who throws one liners, can't lose due to his promise. Shanks after all lost his arm to a fodder sea monster. Just look at all the banter he get from admiral fans: snitch, lord of the coast>Shanks, does nothing but parties, called useless by Mihawk etc. A Mary Sue would humiliate all of them, regrow a super duper legendary new arm and so on. He has elements of a Mary Sue but he is not one. Look at Luffy to see the closest example in One piece.

What's a "mary sue"? A char that's too perfect? Then Luffy's the best example. He may be flawed on paper cause he's dumb and selfish but those aren't real flaws if they don't rly affect the story. They're only there to make him funnier and more entertaining.

Shanks not havin flaws doesn't mean much when he barely got screentime and char development. WB's a better example imo.

Because it was out of respect and there was a theme already discussed that the Marines won and werr going too far. He stopped Akainu from killing Koby for a reason.
