I know what your saying he already has a Logia and doesn't have a zoan ability. But he's Luffy's biggest rival and has a similar DF. If he was a Logia abilities would pass through him. the devil fruit encyclopedia said it was a logia but it's not. If I was a person with a powerful devil fruit(kizari...Aokiji...Akainu) I would be careful if I were you.

What creature could represent "Darkness" itself? I personally don't see it.

Yami trades its intangibility for the ability to nullify devil fruits. That's a worth trade off imo.

Bro....it literally was explained during its reveal that the Yami Yami user is a special logia, you are still tangible and take double damage but you negate all other fruit powers.

If he gets anything, it will be 100% a zoan

At this point only two routes that Oda could take with Yami's intangibility.

1. Still a Logia:

Logical route. In this route Teach being tangible turns out to be a Logia natural weakness. Just like how Crocodile and Enel lose intangibility with water-drinched/rubber attacks, light sources force Teach to remain tangible. This is supported by the black cloth used to cover WB.

2. Mythical Zoan:

Lazy route. Really no reason to go Zoan other than drawing a Sun-Moon god parallel, and be a shockvalue obsessed whore that changes established plot lines for unpredictability rather than unforseen flaws.

But there's an interesting theory for a moon god mythical Zoan made here long ago, Triple Godess Hecate, goddess of moon, dark and night. If you search the symbol of Hecate then you would find it really similar to Teach's jolly roger.

He has a Zoan already. Luffy is literally the son god and Blackbeard represents darkness. Oda literally spelled it out in the ace fight. Ace questioned Blackbeard being a Logia. Blackbeard inconsistency parallel Luffy's inconsistencies with his devil fruit. Blackbeard casually said he was Logia the same way Luffy said he's not a zoan. Blackbeard just hasn't awakened his fruit yet. I mean look how he got up after fighting whitebeard being slashed open and then went on to fight Garp and Sengoku and have no wounds or lasting damage the next time we see him. Fought three top tiers with no lasting damage. it's plain as day to see.

The fruit was nerfed because it was overpowered. As databook green says, in the original setting yami yami wielder would be strong enough to fight three admirals. Oda made yami weaker and gave Blackbeard a second fruit instead.

In addition, intangibility doesnt offer much against a haki master. Shanks forced Greenbull out of his logia form with his wifi haki. At Luffy's current level, I dont see how Blackbeard becoming intangible helps him.

Nevertheless, I see where you are coming from. Luffy has a zoan sun god fruit (light), so Blackbeard having a zoan moon god (darkness) actually fits nicely.
