Ill leave this thread for when the arc concludes. You cant criticize an incomplete piece of work, cuz the shit people "tear apart" can actually pay off by the arcs conclusion.

Someone up above mentioned how in Kabuki the Shoguns are portrayed that way Orochi does in those plays? If Wano is really based on the plays, then that's something the readers have to suck up lmao. And this arc having the play structure actually contributes to the feeling that there's no plot. You would need to consume the arc in its entirety for it to flow better.

Which goes back to what I said in my first paragraph.

It's true, The Samurai even tried to Ban Kabuki plays because of how much it made fun of The Japanese ruling class compared to Noh plays that glorified them as divine beings

Meh I can realistically criticize only a few aspects, for example:

- Unnecessary prolonged subplots
- Too many details
- Extensive slow pace in some traits of the arc
- Orochi and a few other characters that could of been replaced with better choices making the thing still look as realistic

Kaido vs the scabbards was amazing

997 was outstanding especially to the Zoro Chopper interaction

Roof Piece has been marvelous

Strawhats get fights is great too
Roof Piece has been utter trash.

Kaido vs the Scabbards was a glorified filler fight. Almost everybody I’ve seen didn’t care much about the scabbards at all and was just waiting to get back to Luffy and Zoro. This is because Oda did an utterly abysmal job at creating any emotional reason for readers to care about the scabbards at all, and none of them had a relationship with Oden that was explored or developed on panel.

We got a bunch of panels about the scabbards crying for Oden, but we never got to understand why they loved this guy so much except for how strong he was. His relationships with the scabbards was 100% unexplored. I guess Oda thinks if he draws characters crying, then readers will sympathize with them?

Kaido vs the scabbards was also retardedly predictable. I’ve been a member of the OP community for about 9 years now. Not as long as many others but a decent period of time. I can’t tell you the last time that I’ve seen the entire fan base, in unison, predict with 100% accuracy how a fight was going to go. “The scabbards kick the shit out of Kaido at first, reopen his old wound that Oden gave him, and then Kaido gets real and wins” <-this was the prediction of everyone and their mother because this was the most generic route possible and even 12 year olds could predict this nonsense. And hey, this is exactly what happened.

For reference, 50% of the fan base thought that Katakuri would actually defeat Luffy. The only thing Oda cares about as a writer is being unpredictable, and this scabbard fight was the most predictable fight he’s ever written.

As for Kaido and Big Mom vs the new generation:

The objective shittiest fight Oda has ever written, hands down.

1. The art is horrible. Half of the panels look like Oda hasn’t even finished drawing them, and their is visually no difference between attacks that were not working on Kaido back in 923, and attacks that are supposed to be hurting him right now. Oda draws Kaido screaming like a bitch to let us know he’s taking damage, which simultaneously decreases his charisma as a villain moment by moment. For comparison, I don’t think Doflamingo screamed even once when Luffy was punching him.

2. The dialogue is the shittiest Oda has ever written. This stems from the fact that, like I’ve mentioned in my first post here, that Wano has no story whatsoever. This has been the dialogue of this fight so far:

“Nani? They can injure me? How is this possible?”

“Lol, these brats!” Mascot smile

“Punching attacks work on Kaido? Nani?”

“But muh durability”

“Lin Lin, I’m starting to have fun!” Screams in terror after taking minor damage

“I will become the Pirate King!!”

^^If it sounds to you that I pulled the above from a shit tier fanfic, that is because this is easily the worst dialogue Oda has written in 25 years as a mangaka. I said this in the past, but One Punch Man fights have better dialogue than this, and the purpose of OPM dialogue is to make fun of how stupid Shonen dialogue can be. I can almost guarantee you’ll find better dialogue in every Fairy Tale fight. But like I said, this is just a symptom of the bigger problem:

3. The Rooftop fight is a manifestation of the fact that Wano has no story. In 2018, Oda gave a quote about how he thought his audience would be disappointed if Luffy defeated Kaido simply by virtue of his punch being so strong. If 2018 Oda could see himself now lmfao, about how the last 3 chapters of One Piece have just been characters fangasming about Luffy’s ability to hurt Kaido by punching him, about how Luffy’s entire character arc in Wano was just him learning stronger punches off-panel, about how his big Chapter 1000 moment of One Piece was just Luffy punching Kaido....I wonder if 2018 Oda would check 2021 Oda into a mental asylum.

All of Wano has been terrible, but the Rooftop section of Wano has been the worst aspect of the worst arc in OP. Making it literally the worst thing Oda has done in 25 years of writing.

Back when they were ongoing;

Fisherman Island was filler and useless.
Dressrossa was shit and dragged way too much.
WCI was utter garbage and one of the worst arcs in OP.
But now, Dressrossa is one of the best arcs in OP. WCI is far better than Wano and Oda was creative af with the devils fruits. FMI at least has a proper plot line with racism and stuff.

You see a pattern here? People never like an arc when it's ongoing due to various reasons. Everything starts making sense only when an arc reaches it's conclusion. There is room to criticize certain aspects of Wano but it's too soon to judge the entire arc.
Except people still consider Fishman Island to be a bland arc, Dressrosa is still considered to be the prime example of Oda’s worst paced arc and WCI is still considered an utter garbage arc at somewhere between second worst to worst, so I really do not see where you are going with these examples since the general complaints that folk made at the time, still apply. Lol.

One Piece is a weekly publication. If it fails to be entertaining on a weekly level then it’s not doing it’s job right.

Bro thats the point. He asked her to sell her beliefs and Luffy for few sec of life.
Thats because Ussop is a lair. Something Luffy can't do. Elbalf will exploit Ussop lying just Like WCI=cooking Wano=Cutting Elbalf=Lying. Things Luffy can't and will never be able to do.

Kaido is the worst character Oda has ever written. His personality is an inconsistent mish-mash of random character traits that contradict each other left and right, and he feels more like a gag character than an actual villain. One second, he’s eager to find a place to die and to start the world’s greatest war, and the next second he’s begging his subordinates to keep Big Mom out of Wano out of fear of the conflict she may bring with her. One second he’s desperate to entertain himself and wants to start a war with the whole world, and the next second he’s screaming like a little bitch because the Samurai can actually give him paper cuts.

Wano has no story whatsoever. In the past, OP has had fairly interesting plots like the Dance Powder/Revolution being masterminded by Crocodile plot lines in Alabasta, the hypocrisy of the World Government’s Peace & Justice in Enies Lobby, the commentary on racism in Fishman Island, etc. but the story of Wano is literally just Luffy learning magic punches that allow him to hurt Kaido. That’s it. And almost all of this story is off-paneled anyway, the only part of it we explore is Luffy saying “I want to learn the magic anti-Kaido Haki!” And then he just learns it off screen while we go through the dumbest flashback in OP history featuring the second worst character Oda has ever written in Kozuki Oden.

Oda tried to hide the fact that Wano has literally no story whatsoever by creating the third worst character he has ever written in Otama. When Oda realized how garbage Wano was about to be, he tried to create the worst “please show me sympathy” character in manga history, an 8 year old girl who is just so mistreated by the comically evil Kaido! And who can’t wait for Ace-Ni to eventually return to her some day! Otama’s role in Wano is simple: get the metaphorical shit kicked out of her left and right so Oda can go for cheap sympathy points. “See how evil Kaido and Orochi are?? This poor little helpless girl!!” *Cries in Shonen*

Yeah speaking of Orochi, what the fuck was that? Was purpose did this character serve? Talk about a character who was literally in-power for no reason whatsoever. In a real manga, this repulsive piece of shit would’ve been beheaded the second he tried to claim the Shogunate for himself, but this is OP and Oda has to sleep deprive himself for thousands of hours to come to the conclusion that “fans really won’t expect it if it makes absolutely no sense that the Shogun of Wano is weak as shit and has no legitimate claim to ruling Wano! Expectations subverted!”

I could go on since absolutely nothing about Wano is good in anyway. Whole Cake Island is high art compared to this trash.
You forgot the 4th worst character Oda ever created...Yamato. She is the most trashest, annoying character I’ve seen in One Piece in a while. She feels like a complete afterthought by Oda because she literally had no buildup and appeared out of nowhere

After re-reading it in one go, Wano is actually more enjoyable than it's given credit for.

However, my main problem are logic issues, inconsistencies (always have been with OP) and the lack of an actual interesting storyline. It's just the same old "big baddy took over country of our friends" all over again, but this time we don't even have a good plot behind it.

Just one example of an inconsistency btw: Oden was a huge man, almost twice the size of Kinemon, who is also larger than a regular human himself. When we see him fight with Enma, it looks like a normal-sized sword in his hand. That means, Enma must be a gigantic sword, since Oden is such a large human being. However, when Zoro, who is tiny compared to Oden, gets Enma, it also looks like a normal-sized sword in his hand.

That just doesn't make any sense at all, no matter how you turn it, and there are a lot of such inconsistencies in the Wano arc.

Things like that might be irrelevant for some fans, but it bothers me a lot, because there is just no inner-manga consistency.

I bring up HxH a lot, but that's for a reason, since it's actually a shonen that's comparable to OP, but just so much better in everything that has to do with actual writing (inner-manga logic and consistency, intelligent plots with actual substance, no repition in its arc structures etc.).
