This is so needlessly reckless to the point of public endangerment...how are people gonna feel in that city if a disease spreads because a father and daughter couldn’t just order a pizza and call it a night??

Because a lot of people got the idea it’s less deadly / a worry than the common flu, because that’s been the repeated line constantly. Can’t really blame them tbh

I can...under this current administration - and yes, this *has* to be political because the federal government is bungling this whole thing like they have so many times before - it’s on the individual to do some research and learn what’s true about the disease. If you’ve been told to remain under quarantine by a medical professional and actively choose not to, and you therefore put others at risk who might suffer because of your callousness, you deserve the majority of the blame for whatever happens in the community.

The article says the family (neither the father nor the daughter were the patient, apparently) was informed of the diagnosis and asked to quarantine themselves on Thursday, a full two days before the dance, but he claims he didn’t know until after it. How the hell can that possibly be true?? You had two whole days under quarantine!! Did you think that was just for fun or practice??

Well, yeah. I’m not sure on how contagious it is—I’m no expert and I have seen conflicting reports all around. But it’s not like the dad went out to fuck hookers or anything lol. Dude likely thought he had the chance of having some weird strain of the flu, but wanted to attend the father—daughter dance. I can understand his circumstances and decisions tbh. I know plenty of people who go to bars or work sick.

As do I, but this is different in the details if not fundamentally. Companies are starting to tell people to stay home if at all possible, and they’re not gonna intentionally lose profit unless it’s completely unavoidable...that alone should have told this guy and many others that it needs to be taken somewhat seriously in their personal lives.

Tbh, China self sabotaging itself and it’s own economy as far back as mid January should’ve alerted a lot more people. But it seems like, until it hits each country hard enough, no one is going to take it that seriously.

Maybe not countries as a whole, but it’s already affected a lot. All the major American sports leagues are restricting access to their clubhouses, shit like SXSW and live game shows are telling audiences to stay away, and even my job is preparing to get a lot of coworkers (myself included) working from home. The panic hasn’t reached pandemic levels yet, but the pitch is certainly rising.

You should look into WHO sites, it might not affect young people but the cases for the people above 60+ is worrisome.

Its better to stick with WHO reports rather than the govts , they are more impartial and repeatedly given guidelines to not move in mass gatherings.

The extend of the virus behavior is unknown.

Totally agree with you bro... I often hear people saying it's not as deadly as the flu, but as far as i understand (i dont know much abt medicine myself tho) there are some major differences which is why it's a little bit more worrisome :
- flu has a vaccine already available
- the incubation period of 1-2 days for flu vs. up to 2 weeks for corona....
so basically when someone has the flu he knows it pretty much right away, hence generally behaves in a way to avoid contagion... not the case with corona, which is one of the reason it's spreading so damn fast....

Totally agree with you bro... I often hear people saying it's not as deadly as the flu, but as far as i understand (i dont know much abt medicine myself tho) there are some major differences which is why it's a little bit more worrisome :
- flu has a vaccine already available
- the incubation period of 1-2 days for flu vs. up to 2 weeks for corona....
so basically when someone has the flu he knows it pretty much right away, hence generally behaves in a way to avoid spreading it... not the case with corona, which is one of the reason it's spreading so damn fast....

The big problem is that even if the death ratio is less than 1% of the cases about 10% have to be put in intensive care (and this is true even for young people) this people need machines to support their vital functions for a period before they get better, now this means that if this virus spreads too far hospitals will not have the sufficient intensive care units to look after everybody and so doctors will have to choose who they have to save. And this is the reason behind the measures Italy is taking right now.

Ya most of my conservative friends think its a flu . I told them enough Corona is on whole different level !! Our little italian Trump (Salvini) when the virus started to kick hard said the same thing (close all the harbors to the immigrants who are coming from Africa in Italy), but almost immediately he was blasted underlining the simple facts that now is Africa who is closing their harbors to italians. Now he is pretty much silenced and neutralized since he, like Trump, prospers on looting on everything, everytime and everywhere so now doing such acts is seen, rightly, as regrettable so he is giving his all to avoid it as much as he can for the moment (even if this didn't prevent him from declaring to many foreign media that our government is a bounch of foolish and incompetent people). Yet the difference is that he is at the opposition in Italy while Trump is the USA president..
