Current Events Cross Guild conception - Crocodile, Mihawk, Buggy's perspective

Hello everyone, since Cross Guild interactions are the hot topic right now, I decided to create a topic around Cross Guild, specifically around the difference in perspective between Crocodile, Mihawk and Buggy in the creation of the Cross Guild organization. So let's start :optimistic:

Cross Guild's conception and perspective

As Crocodile stated, the entire idea behind Cross Guild came from Mihawk and him

But what should be interesting behind that conception would be their specific goals in forming the organization. Crocodile as starters needed funds(wealth) to start the company, reason why he went for Buggy who had his money since the events of Impel Down

With his goal being continuing his Utopia plan of building an unparalleled nation(in terms of military might) superior to that of the world government

However he also needed power, reason why he contacted Mihawk, who was known as Naval Hunter in the past

And from Mihawk's perspective, it was a way for him not to be continuously bothered by the World Government, who would just keep annoying him, when he wants a quiet life

With their align of interest ending up as an opportunity where the combo of Crocodile's wealth and Mihawk's power could be used as an opportunity to make the marines sit up and take notice.

And as a way to pay his debt, Buggy proposed to help Crocodile in the creation of his company by playing the errand boy, using his men to work for him, but with that plan backfiring due to Buggy's followers worshipping him

But with Mihawk and Crocodile thinking at the time that it might not be that huge of an issue for him to take the spotlight, especially since from Mihawk's perspective it's not an issue to him only wanting a quiet life, and Crocodile being used to working in the shadows anyway like with Baroque works where even members of his own organization didn't know zero was him for a long time

With Crocodile pointing out once again that they left him that title because it benefits them

So with ultimately Mihawk and Crocodile accepting Buggy as the figurehead while the actual leaders were them, but in the shadows

However Mihawk/Crocodile's perception of creating a military might that would not be threatened by anyone, especially the World Government, favorizing Crocodile's idea around Utopia and Mihawk's ideal of looking for a quiet life, is different from Buggy's own perception as a pirate aiming at aiming for the One Piece, which is what is ultimately making their overall plan backfire

Because of one Buggy's most underestimated talent is his talent in leadership, which was already shown in Impel Down where his worshippers were about to fight Luffy, Jinbei, Crocodile and co if not for Buggy

And thus with Buggy calling out his men to look for the One Piece, it indirectly take a hit in Crocodile's/Mihawk's Utopia perspective since losing Buggy's men means terribly losing in influence not only in the Cross Guild crew, but in the entire world since they are indirectly responsible in increasing their infamy and thus explaining why they'd be angry

And I think that due to this, they'd be forced to go along with Buggy's plan since as Buggy stated himself the wealth and power they are trying to gain could be accomplish in one-go anyway if they aim for the One Piece

It'd be a way for Crocodile/Mihawk to use Buggy's aim for the One Piece as a way for themselves to accomplish their goal(Utopia) while indirectly carrying him to the top by fighting his enemies for him

Now that's it for me. Hope you enjoyed reading :optimistic:

Oda should focus more on the logistics of pirating and crew building rather than baiting Yamatits for two years and the reversing course at the last minute for no damn reason. I’d be interested in learning more about the full extent of Big Mom’s Intel network or Kaido’s territories and how he claimed them rather than whatever the fuck Oda wrote about in Wano.

Mihawk’s motivations are also very interesting because there are heavy hints of a great betrayal in his past.

He gets all pensive and starts thinking back to him being invited to join as a result of Buggy’s crew wholeheartedly abandoning him and joining up with Croc.

Then in the flashback it‘s confirmed he doesn’t trust other people, and it seems to be linked to his background as a Marine Hunter.

Did Mihawk once have a crew that turned him over to the Marines? Was he betrayed by the Marines in some way and got revenge on them by hunting them?

I like this analysis. Another thing we need to consider is that Crocodile and Mihawk threw away their dreams. Somewhere deep down, Croc did want to become Pirate King and Mihawk used to challenge all kinds of strong swordsmen, only to realise he could never gain the satisfaction he wanted. Buggy’s little accident in the last chapter might remind them what it actually means to pursue an idealistic dream again instead of being bogged down by thoughts of nation building or farming. It could lead to character development for the trio, if one turns on reading comprehension and stops drinking the powerscaling koolaid.

I think Zoro and Buggy have different roles in Mihawk’s story. The story suggests Mihawk felt somewhat disappointed and betrayed when Shanks sacrificed their rivalry to save some random kid. Meeting Zoro led Mihawk to understand the value of investing in the next generation and Zoro’s loyalty impressed him despite Mihawk personally not being particularly loyal to anyone or anything. Buggy is actually part of Mihawk’s generation, the generation that competed in the fiercest golden era of piracy but flamed out mentally and emotionally. Buggy realising that there is hope for them yet and that it’s not too late to continue dreaming would resonate deeply with Mihawk’s own situation.

This is a really great breakdown of how Crocodile's utopia project mentioned way back in Alabasta ties into the development of Cross Guild and why someone like Mihawk would be interested in it. Buggy's natural charismatic leadership is a powerful talent that makes pirates far and wide root for him compared to Crocodile who ruled through deception and fear.

When it comes down to it, Buggy is essentially carrying the spirit of his captain Roger that rallied pirates to the seas at his execution. Shanks may have gotten Roger's overwhelming strength but Buggy has his charisma.

Buggy’s words could even imply that at some point Mihawk himself wanted to be the PK and gave it up.

Potentially at the same time he stopped trusting people? Maybe he didn’t always lack a crew and when he told Luffy being the PK was harder than being the WSS, it came from personal experience.

There’s a background story of distrust, the Marines, Shanks and becoming a Warlord that all make for interesting future reading for Mihawk.

I gotta say this was a really smart way to give impact to Buggy as a character beyond the gags.

It set up a pretty effective and quite touching context as to his perception of things and his career as a pirate up until now. Buggy was someone who gave up on bigger dreams way before he ever set sail on his own ship due to spending his whole childhood right alongside someone with far greater potential than him. He was pretty much ready to simply tag along as Shanks rose to the top. Shanks' decision to not go for the One Piece (yet) was his best friend refusing to seize the dream that he had given up on because of that very same friend.

Buggy understandably refused to sail with a Shanks that would be "throwing away" the potential that he always wanted to have. But already convinced of his own inability at that point, he settled for the pursue of the lesser treasures of the pirate world and totally gave up on his big dreams or the opportunity to see his friend achieve them.

But now that circumstances have placed him where he is now he is the only one able to dream big enough to see the possibility of Cross Guild winning it all and as OP said this might just be enough for Crocodile to realize that he doesn't have to only settle for a confortable status and position in the world order when they could be occupying the top spot.

Still on the fence as to how this can lead to interesting development for Mihawk tho. Dude really doesn't seem to have any bigger goal than finding worthy competition as a swordsman and since he already views Zoro as the one that will eventually give him that, his personal motivation has been set into motion for a long while now...

I just wanna add it's possible that instead of getting One Piece (Which is reserved for Luffy ofc), each of Cross Guild Leaders will prove their Superiority as Representatives of Fame, Power & Wealth

However, since Buggy is presented as Leader Figure then He will be Key

1. He is Shanks Rival, same as Mihawk (Power)
2. He wants to find Captain John's Treasure (Wealth)
3. He is Inspired by Wizard of Oz (Fame)

These Three Hints clearly indicate that Cross Guild are gonna sit on Empty Throne + Surpass Red-Hair Pirates + Claim John's Treasure
(Ultimate Fame, Ultimate Power, Ultimate Wealth. But ofc, One Piece Throne is even Greater)

The Fact that this Saga literally started with Formation of Cross Guild suggests that it will End with their Success. Crocodile's Plan to replace WG will indeed become True (Oda literally gave him this Ambition before & Thousand Chapters later, He still does, so He won't fail again)

The World will declare Buggy as King of The World
They will recruit Stronger Commanders than Red-Hair Pirates led by Mihawk
And They will have Captain John's Legendary Treasure (Claimed by Crocodile)

But ofc, They won't be the one to Defeat WG or anyone, it will simply be another one of Buggy's Miracles

Buggy will truly end up as the greatest leader.
His luck is unmatched and it's just a matter of time before Mihawk and Crocodile decide to just go with it and see where it takes them.

Knowing Oda, he's never going to follow through with a proper story for Mihawk
The usual pattern is that people Luffy faces get Power (they are strong) and Fame(they are big players) while Zoro's opponents get Power without Fame(world barely mentions them)... If there is one guy among Zoro's opponents who will get Fame as well, it is Mihawk.
A possible abandoned dream and his mistrust into others that Crocodile mentioned could end up as his proper story. We'll see.

mihawk wanted one piece/to be PK/catch all the pokemon marines/something other than being WSS and had his own crew, but because he doesn't have luffy's 'most dangerous ability' (to inspire loyalty and get followers easily), they betrayed him. buggy's crew ditching their captain once the going got tough reminded mihawk of this.

just an idea
