Sanji did better than Luffy most of the time, the thing is that Luffy gets beaten and comes back smarter, acknowledging his opponents powers, since Sanji said he understood about Doffy's powers, if they clashed again things would be much different.
We don't know how strong "Overhiito" is, but we know that Law could hold it with his sword.
How was Sanji "almost dying" to Doffy if he tanked "Goshikito" even better than Law and Luffy?
He didn't attacked first, otherwise he could just hit King straight away instead of rescuing Momonosuke, King was the one pissed off willing to kill.
Sanji didn't got knocked out, he got stunned at most, King vs Sanji is offscreened the time he hits the wall, we don't know what happened there, when King reappears side by side with Queen, we see Sanji getting up and returning to where everyone is. How is someone supposed to get knocked out and suddenly reappears like nothing happened, just chilling?
He never said that, he said the suit was durable cuz he thought it would break with the attack, and he used haki to protect himself most likely, just like he did throughout this whole arc. He felt how strong King's attack could potentially be.
Obviously if you get hit by an attack you can't avoid getting hit you will worry about the damage you may take, Luffy is the best example of that, Zoro almost killed himself in the rooftop willingly.
King kicked Sanji with his knee, it's pretty logical to think that he would defend himself with his knee too, not with the literal bottom of his foot.
There is nothing bad with it, if you understimate you opponent it's expected to get punished, it's the same thing with Zoro vs Killer, he not only didn't know how much strong Kamazou was but he just forgot he had that annoying samurai fighting him before.
Sanji chilling did more damage than a pissed Smoker free hitting Vergo with several haki blows, and Vergo acted like it was nothing, 2 Sanji's kicks made Vergo bleed and sent him flying hitting the wall, taking few seconds to recompose himself. Even after Sanji getting hurt he kept trading blows, Vergo left due to the gas
Sanji was willing to fight despite anything. Obviously he fucked up, which could make the fight more difficult, even then he didn't care about it or his leg for the whole arc.

Fodder Samurai Gyukimaru, Drake and Killer, all of them could block Zoro's basic slashes with ease, you know there is a big difference between an actual prepared attack and a random slash/kick, right?
King is a versatile fighter since his introduction, he isn't a pure swordsman, just like Katakuri isn't a damn spearsman but he DOES uses a SPEAR.

Zoro fans should be grateful to Sanji's existence, otherwise he would need to use Zoro against these main villains, to showcase not just Zoro's powers but also the enemies powers, thats what Oda did with Sanji against some of them, he made Sanji fuck up intentionally, like understimating his opponent or going to fight against an opponent that you have no clue about his powers, thats basicly Sanji stopping Doflamingo, but at the same time he impresses his opponent by how he manages to handle the situation even in disadvantage.

Honestly, a lot of Sanji matchups that ended up failed to materialize were just either just grasping at straws or reaching to begin with.
People argued hard that Sanji was gonna 1v1 katakuri, for the biggest reason that they were both meant to specialize in Observation Haki (don't know where that came from, even before Luffy getting Future Sight, Sanji's Observation Haki wasn't anything special and all three members of the Monster Trio showed to have them at the start of the time skip as early as the Fishman Island Arc). They ignored the devil fruit similarities between Luffy and katakuri. They also failed to realize the similar roles that both Luffy and Katakuri played during the WCI Arc: that being protectors of those dear to them. Luffy was trying to protect Sanji and the Vinsmokes from Big Mom's assassination, while Katakuri was trying to protect his siblings from invaders and a dangerous Luffy. They were also both gluttons.
Then come Wano, people argued for Sanji vs King, for the reasons that King can fly and produce flames just like Sanji. Yet they fail to realize that King is also the only swordsman of the Calamities and also the strongest after Kaido, a role that is also shared by Zoro in the Straw Hat crew. King can produce flames, Zoro can cut flames.
King being Sanji's opponent was never undisputed and exclusively his. Zoro had equal chances of being King's opponent if not more.
Sanji vs Queen was also a possibility with a high chance of happening. Both the third strongest, both smokers, both wear technology etc. So people shouldn't really feel like they got lied to, bamboozled or cat fished by Oda. The signs were there from the beginning.
And like what @Garp the Fist has already said, Queen identifying Sanji and wanting to take him out should've been a dead giveaway. King only had one clash with sanji and just told him to disappear. The Sanji vs King possibility ended right then and there imo.

In the next panel he appears with the rest of the crew, there is no "King called Gifters", the Gifters were there since ever, you speak like King need to made a literal call for these Gifters to come. How is this supposed to be a knock out? He just got stunned, things not only got offscreened but we don't know much far they went after King hits the building. King's biggest effort in the whole raid was trying to take Sanji out, and he didn't achieved that.
Most likely yes, thats why he fcked up, he understimated his opponent, the Black Maria situation is similar.
You can clearly see the difference between this and now taking the decision of fighting Queen willingly.

LoL, you could make a less use of these emotes, it's too hard to read.
Doffy acknowledged "Poele a Frire" raw power straight away, and needed to use "Parasite" to stop Sanji from attacking, otherwise there is no chance of getting away from it.
If he used haki on his coat against Luffy it's cuz he already knew that his attack was strong, and needed to protect himself, it's most like "Poele a Frire" is equal or even stronger than "Jet Gatling" based on this portrayal. But both of these attacks barely manages to do something good cuz the opponent is always ready for it most likely, Luffy's jet gatling became obsolete for example.
And again, Sanji isn't shown using haki until WCI and Wano, which shows he wasn't giving his 100% on these brief clashes, and even then he managed to hurt his opponent or keep up with them even in complete disadvantage. This man took a "Goshikito" on his face and blitzed Doffy instantly, then Doffy needed to use "Parasite", something he only used when he realized the couldn't stop his opponent.
