Powers & Abilities Gandhi gorosei is the true WSS

#82
Does the Gorosei have a black blade, no? How sad, tell him to at least get one (since he can't make one over all these years) before thinking of him as WSS.
Was Roger a swordsman? Yes.
Did he have a black blade? No
Ryuma had a black blade, why isn't it considered a supreme blade?

We barely know anything about what makes a sword black or how it classifies as a 12 supreme blade.

Small possibility he's one of the best swordsmen with the current Imu hype

Perhaps Imu's strongest body guard/henchman which means Zoro would fight him

The most popular headcannon is that COA hardening is primary factor is blackening a blade

About personality? Lmfao do they happen to be his mother or something
He's an enemy regardless of what you think, having him sit meters away from you without protection, especially when you know how strong he is, is not something you do nonchalant. He's a pirate who runs a band of thugs at the end of the day.
Whitebeard and Roger too were enemies, the term enemy was explicitly used, yet they could sit together and drink. Just as Shanks was Whitebeard's enemy but had a diplomatic talk and stood with the remnants of the WB pirates in front of WB's grave. Enemies too can have a codex of honor and abide by (spoken) contracts, because being a man of your word gives you respective reputation.

Arguing like this, the Gorosei also can't be 100% certain to be with Akainu in one room, since Akainu is a maniac who argues with the elders and bad mouths them. He could snap at any moment.

There is no need for mental gymnastics; Shanks is explicitly portrayed as someone you can have diplomacy with. The Gorosei even said "since it's you, it's fine". That's all we need to hear.
Wouldn't argue it's so basic. Here's some basic english, 12 supreme blades > 21 great blades.
Yet, black blades were labelled as the finest of them all too. Wielding a black blade doesn't automatically make you > everyone holding a great grade blade, especially when you are a swordsman that forged it black.

You can’t use Whitebeard here, who’s not only stronger than Shanks but also has his crew at a finger’s notice.
Portrayed to whom, to the reader? That’s not how it works. St charlos is portrayed as trash but his father loves him dearly lol
This is a story, these characters all have different views of the world.
Being familiar with how he functions doesn’t mean he can’t just snap/abduct them in seconds for whatever reasons he may have.
He’s a pirate afterall, raised by the pirate king himself.

Where does it say that black blades are the strongest? Only Yoru is considering it’s a supreme blade too. Nothing about shusui

Yeah, and yet Shanks entered the ship. Even used Haoshoku since he is "on an enemies ship". He earlier in the story also sent Rockstar on Whitebeard's ship.

The odds are really against you here. The Gorosei did not view Shanks as a threat from a political point of view ("since it's you"). If there was a remaining risk Shanks could go wild, they would not have let him in. Even if they are competent fighters, fighting a Yonko level guy within the castle of Marijoa would be nuts, especially since his crew might be nearby on a ship. We just have to go with what the Gorosei stated.

It was said in the road to laugh tale.

"Black Blades are the most elite blades in existence (with Mihawk's in particular being renowned as the strongest of them all)"

Not convincing, it’s not within reason to entrust the lives of the top 5 most powerful people on the whims of a pirate. They granted him this passage exactly because they can handle him if something might happen, but likely not because they know his reputation.

Forgot this was in rtlt, it is still very suspicious a swordsman like Roger/Xebec has no black blade but 12 supreme, but a black blade like shisui is a 21 great blade

This was my first statement you're basically chasing your tail lol
I meant that's your implication, that the Elders are combatants because they have scars and therefore have something to do with strength, which isn't a valid reasoning since we have scarred characters who aren't even fighters.

About personality? Lmfao do they happen to be his mother or something

Yeah, that's how politics have always worked. And that's the Elders territory, no matter they're alone with Shanks in that room, around them there's an army of both Government soldiers plus the Knights of God plus CP plus the Marines close enough in New Marineford. But again, personality is important; just like Marco knew, they know Shanks isn't the type to do stupid stuff so they can talk like adults.

The world isn't as simplistic as you're portraying it to be. Even in real history we have examples of encounters, relationships, whatever where risks were taken with an enemy because people trusted them not to do something stupid. I mean, it's famously thought that Hannibal and Scipio, historical adversaries, met in a friendly way in spite of the later having defeated the former, and "a pirate who runs a band of thugs at the end of the day" was trusted by Andrew Jackson, who would become the United States president, in order to fight and win an important battle (not even a meeting anymore but actually working with a pirate for the future of the country).

Only because someone is supposedly an enemy doesn't mean they will instantly go for your throat just because. That's for stupid people, and luckily for humanity not everyone is such an irrational savage.

Wouldn't argue it's so basic. Here's some basic english, 12 supreme blades > 21 great blades.
And in this case you have a black supreme blade versus a non-black supreme blade, being black blades something only the canon strongest swordsmen have achieved so far in the whole story. Which holds more narrative weight, then?

You lost me here what is your point exactly
They know about the awakening, they know it hasn't happened for centuries.
"They are comparing their lives to a 800 year timespan because they should know everything about it"
A phenomena that happened 800+ years ago, it's a legend even to us, although we are only 80 years old just like 3% of the human population. Does that make sense to you
:choppawhat:
It makes sense because, unlike most of the world, they hold a position of deep historical knowledge (pretty much the highest bar Imu) and therefore they're expected to know stuff that most of humanity either believes to be a legend or just ignores. Hence the "even to us".

You can interpret it the way you do ("It's been so long since that fruit was awakened that we've come to see it as a legend from our distant past") or the way I do ("This fruit was supposedly renamed, but it's such an obscure event from so long that it's a legend even to us, the most knowledgeable people in the world"); just don't assume yours is the only way.

This has been my thinking as well I just wish his blade was black. Regardless of that it’s still of supreme status just like Yoru. I do believe Yoru was turned into a supreme grade from the blackening feat because I don’t see why Oda wouldn’t put it in a different rank. It doesn’t contradict it being the strongest blade either since it’s the only known blade in that rank that is black and has whatever special properties that comes with that. It be a nice touch if Gandhi was compared to Ryuma in his prime.

So Zoro is supposed to become the WSS ever. Can we know his dream is fulfilled after he beats Mihawk? No.

Some might argue the Gorosei are mere politicians who have nothing to do with strength. Then what are these scars doing on these fragile old men?

And how come they are so nonchalant in the presence of an enemy who's supposedly a top 5 character he's not btw
You can argue he's a snitch and all but that still doesn't explain their cold attitude, two are even giving him their back. They literally don't care.

Ghandi gorosei specifically has been hyped up for wielding a katana, which after Wano you can assume to be the Shodai Kitetsu, one of the 12 supreme blades and the sword that wields the strongest curse.

The only 2 main characters on the path to attain fame & strength are Luffy & Zoro. At one point we thought Luffy has to surpass Roger but then Joyboy happened.
Same can be said about Zoro. Mihawk is merely a stepping stone in the path of godhood Ryuma attained.
Although Oda trolled the viewers by comparing Luffy with Ryuma, that was simply a parrallel concerning his reputation as the guardian of Wano.
In reality we know that Ryuma is connected with Zoro, he's hailed as the god of the blade and eventually marimo should reach this level. Many analogies have already been set in stone, whether it's their pre-ts interaction, their looks or observations made by third parties.

What does Ghandi have to do with this? Well first off his design indicates he's originally from Wano. He's the only gorosei not wearing a suit which is to be expected from a hardcore samurai of legendary status. He doesn't hold the WSS title as it would be absurd for someone of his political status to be involved with mundane fame and titles held by what's pretty much considered plebeians.

We know Ryuma protected Wano from outside invaders but also from Wano nobility too. To be able to reach such an esteemed position in the government, Ghandi must have been Wano royalty in the past. Oda also highlights this by having him comment on the Wano situation.

He's the only possible candidate who can eventually confirm to the reader that Zoro surpassed all swordsmen in history. That will happen by shedding light on Ghandi's past and how at some point he rivalled Ryuma and fought him to a stalemate or something of the sort. In the bigger picture Mihawk is simply his master who helped him reach this point. Right now there shouldn't be a huge gap between the two.

I already made a post on why Mihawk will defeated before reaching Raftel. This leaves Ghandi as Zoro's final swordsman to be defeated. It's not a weird move to sideline Mihawk for Ghandi as the gorosei will eventually be the final villains who have also been hyped for so long.

WSS to looking more like Zoro becoming a great pirate for the pirate king than being the strongest swordsman

it doesn’t matter if you have a black blade as long as you’re strong enough to fight at Mihawks level

Strawhats will not fight admirals because they’ll be at that level once they reach that arc it seems

Reaching yonko level for the final saga is the lowest level a character can be after wano.

Imu > Gororsei > Pirate king > Seraphim, Yonko, Admiral

Blackbeard running away from Greenbull level threats because of their notoriety as a pirate in the past

It is not, tho I would argue how important that is. For example why is Shusui a black blade yet is considered one of the 21 grades, or Roger & Whitebeard having 12 supreme but not a black blade. Or should you have both? But then again Mihawk is not on Roger's level, not in feats nor in portrayal. There are details we still don't know.
Mihawk has top tier and warlord levels of potrayal, he doesn’t want to be regarded so high.

Roger is the pirate with the greatest goal, but Oda is telling us there’s more who can rule the seas/world

01. Roger was Stronger than WSS because PK
02. Shanks Stronger because Haki Man
03. Oden Stronger because Kaido Hyped him
04. Rayleigh Stronger cuz he compared to Yonko
05. Shiryu Stronger because it's Nice Theory lol
06. Ghandi Stronger because he looks like Samurai
07. Law will be Stronger because he rivals Luffy lol
08. Fujitora Stronger cuz Admirals > Shichibukai
09. Zoro Stronger cuz he already fulfilled his Dream
10. Vista Stronger cuz Mihawk respects him lol

Damn, Mihawk must be Scariest Fictional Character ever lol WSS isn't even Top 10 Swordsmen lmao

Shanks makes Admirals sweat
Mihawk makes Readers sweat
He simply built different lol
