Powers & Abilities GEAR 5 makes no sense

#1
We've seen in the series that Luffy's Gears are techniques created by Luffy himself, both G2, G3 and G4.

But G5 is just luffy's involuntary awakening and makes absolutely no sense he call that G5 since he did not developed it and didn't even know what was happening, he was already in nika form before saying "gear 5". Oda just threw it in there.

Why did oda spend such a long-awaited term for no reason? Just for the sake of hype?

You're overthinking.

When Luffy uses awakening his body physically changes. G5 is just the name for his new form and using awakening. It's irrelevant if Luffy dedicated time to create create it or not. It is still a new form for him and it's part of his power.

Lol, why so serious, why would he call his awakening technique literally that, it's the same with Law's K-Room.

Same with Luffy's awakening, he simply calls it G5
Law was aware os his awakening before naming him

But where is the need to call that G5? Oda could pretty well just called it awakening and saved G5 for later.

Yea G5 is the worst power up in One Piece , every other Gear was CREATED by Luffy ingenuity , this one is basically
Oda : Luffy now you are a mitical Zoan with God reality bending powers , that's it.
Luffy : Yes master shove more ass pull power ups down my throat pls
the name is the worst part

It doesn't make sense because it is a bad retcon. A bad retcon usually never makes sense because it goes against preestablished plot lines and creates plot holes. This retcon was a desperate attempt by Oda to create false hype because One Piece sales are declining at an alarming rate. In a couple of years he will be forced to end it. 5 million sales per year seems like a lot before you factor in publishing, producing, distribution, labor, etc. all those costs are going to add up especially in todays inflated market.

Awakenings affect surroundings. G5 turned the ground to rubber
So far its done as advertised, so no complaints
Exactly, I think if the fruit was still the "gomu gomu no mi" in name we'd see less complaints, even though the fruit is still functionally the same. A lot of people already accurately predicted some of the effects of the awakening, it just got rebranded as a different fruit.

Oda probably his Luffys ability because too many secrets to one piece would be easy to guess. its typical oda.

he gives you two fist and asks which fist is the rock in you say the left, he opens it and its empty. logically you guess the rock is in the other hand so you tell him to open the righr fist, again nothing is there. he then tells you that you were never looking for a rock but instead trying to guess his favorite number.

if your allways looking for the wrong thing its easy to surprise you.
