Google CEO Sundar Pichai addressed the controversy around its Gemini AI service generating misleading and historically inaccurate images Tuesday, in an internal note saying the issue was “completely unacceptable,” a week after the company paused its ability to generate images of people.

In an internal note first reported by Semafor, Pichai wrote he was aware that some of Gemini’s responses “have offended our users and shown bias” and added: “To be clear, that’s completely unacceptable and we got it wrong.”
Pichai said teams are “working around the clock to address these issues” and the company has seen a “substantial improvement,” without going into further detail.

The CEO’s note then promised a “clear set of actions” to resolve the issue, including structural changes, refreshed product guidelines, technical recommendations, better evaluations, and red-teaming (a process of simulating harmful behavior to spot vulnerabilities).
Pichai’s note also signaled that the company will move forward with its AI roadmap and “build on the product and technical announcements” made in the past few weeks.

Addressing concerns of bias in Gemini’s AI model, Pichai wrote: “We’ve always sought to give users helpful, accurate, and unbiased information in our products. That’s why people trust them. This has to be our approach for all our products, including our emerging AI products.”

3.58%. That is how much Google’s stock value has fallen since the end of last week as the company scrambled to deal with the fallout. The selloff shaved $90 billion off the company’s market cap Monday before the stock mounted a slight recovery over the next few days to end at $140.10 per share.

Google widely launched Gemini earlier this month, replacing its former AI-powered chatbot Bard. Built on the company’s latest AI models, Gemini was touted as a competitor to Microsoft and OpenAI’s offerings like CoPilot, ChatGPT and DALL-E and other generative AI tools like Midjourney and Stability AI’s Stable Diffusion. The controversy around Gemini’s image generation tool emerged last week after users found they were able to generate historically inaccurate images like Black vikings, racially diverse Nazi soldiers and a female pope. Billionaire Elon Musk, who is building xAI as a competitor to Gemini, attacked Google’s service, calling it “woke” and “racist.” Other outlets like the Verge pointed out Gemini’s inaccuracies, noting that a prompt for a “US senator from the 1800s” generated images of a Black woman, even though the first Black woman was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1992. Google halted the service from generating images of people after the controversy spiraled and said the company would “further tune” Gemini to offer more accurate historical contexts.

Thankfully these preseved foods are safe to consume and nowadays, somewhat cheaper than buying fresh produce.
This is not a good thing at all. It's a band aid at best.
Other countries do advertising campaigns to encourage people to eat certain types of food.
None of this would be necessary if there were regulations in place that ban certain kinds of additives and production methods. The ones we have as of now are not nearly enough.
In the US people can choose to have healthier real food, but they typically choose not to. We are bombarded by unhealthy food ads everywhere. Commercials, billboards, they mail coupons and ads. It's endlessly shoved into people's faces. While real food isn't advertised.
But when we are exposed to aggressive advertisement is it still our choice alone? Many people grow up never tasting real food, besides the ads all they see people around them eat is this junk, choosing to go against early childhood manipulation is not easy and on top of that these unhealthy products are designed to be more addictive, they rewrite the person's brain structure or their brains are miswired while in the process of growing up and still developing. It's the same with other drugs, we can't go and say to a cocaine addict "just stop doing cocaine it's your choice alone" because this is not how addiction works at all.
I meant more like a nationwide campaign to encourage people to eat more chicken or veggies. Other countries do that.
What effect does "more chicken and veggies" have at this point? Do you know how even so called real food is preserved and grown?

Might as well post the article itself since it's not a wall of text this time and it's worth spending a couple minutes reading.
[…]"You know, I'm a capitalist at heart, and I believe in liberty and capitalism. Those are my twin values. And I feel like, you know, with the way freedom of speech is today, the movement on gun control, a lot of the liberties that I've taken for granted most of my life, I think, are under threat," he continued[…]
So essentially he wants a world where he and his ilk are free to manipulate the citizens for personal gain🤣

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 no amount of self imposed regulations can stop governments, multinational corporations and billionaire-backed NGOs from from getting their hands on thr unregulated tools and generating historically inaccurate images to deceive the public with fake history campaigns.

I think this video really brings home everything I have been talking about, especially with inner cities. They have voted for the same people for decades, hoping for something different and all they have received in return is more destruction to their neighborhoods. I want all the children here in the US (The world too, but everything starts wherever your home is) to have safe neighborhoods and educations. Not corrupt politicians stealing those funds that were meant to help them.

Something similar happens on Brazil in a region we call Northeast. Poor region governament by same people for decades yet they never get better while other regions that were never governament by that party are much better in every aspect.

I've being seeing people telling how Much Gemini was ahead of ChatGPT and the same was told about Bard now both proved to be failures. That shows how much ahead in the AI the OpenAI company is and the real reason why everyone last year were screaming to stop improvement in AI area.

It also shows how much improvement we need in that area before having something that will really help humanity.

We are tired. Too many cops get away with shit like this because in a lot of cases, they are allowed to investigate themselves. Even body cam footage doesn't stop them because its a very common practice and a lot of times, the body cam footage is never released to the public or if it is, its years later and the officers involved have already gotten off. We could have a better vetting process for the people we put in these positions of power but that won't happen because everyone above them is just as corrupt if not more so.

You can't blame a mass of a group for the acts of a few. Where is that at? It's supposed to be illegal for them to investigate themselves. If it's a local agency, the state is supposed to lead the investigation, same as, if there is a criminal investigation into say a sus death of a spouse of a cop, their agency isn't allowed to lead.
[automerge]1709252794[/automerge]

Ok. So the event happened in Jefferson Parish two to three years ago. The suspect himself came out and claimed that the pills in the back were in fact, his and that they were taken from him before the video. He said he was remorseful for not only biting an officer, but also for the deputy who got accused of planting evidence. The man said he owned up to his mistakes because he didn't want to continue spreading false rumors about what happened.

If all that is true then that's fine and well but then we would have to explain all of these cases too.
No one's blaming the majority for the actions of a few but there are far more than a few bad apples as people would have you believe. The corruption runs deep.

I know there are bad cops. I just am saying it's unhealthy to jump to a conclusion without knowing the facts behind it.

IE the first video you showed that was tagged with false information could cause unfounded riots and protests that will in turn hurt innocent people. It's always best to be late to speak, so you know your information is accurate than to rush to a conclusion and be wrong especially when it can have harmful consequences. I make it a habit to investigate any narrative that I'm shown.

Now I will check out what you just shared.
[automerge]1709256863[/automerge]
1st case: Erikson - Not shocked coming out of New York. We are talking about a state that doesn't believe black people are capable of getting IDs. Also, they should have been prosecuted harder than what they got. 1.) For harming 2.) for feeding the narrative of bad cops In short he had gotten in trouble several times for similar things, even the last time, wasn't much more than a slap on the wrist.

2nd Case: No crime here. The cops were assholes but the guy could have made the situation easier. He should have filed a complaint afterward instead of instigating it. Which would have led to the same outcome of the officer being fired. I know this isn't how it should be, but it is easier for the suspects themselves to fight it in court than on the side of the road.

3rd Case: I give props to the "suspect" because he kept his cool in a very uncomfortable situation. Can't say I disagree with the recourse the officer faced. Unsure, if I agree with him not being fired, but I am cool with it if said officer was instructed to take retraining.

4th Case: From the video itself, the resisting arrest was fair because he did admit to it which he said he started when they tried to pull him out of the car. I think this one is missing details. I get the dude's reaction. I used to always get aggressive when I was pulled over or arrested. Don't think there was a time I wasn't an asshole.
[automerge]1709257597[/automerge]
An injustice I find in our system that falls on poor people, those without families to fight for them is the lack of interest in solving murders committed against those groups.

If you don't have a name or money behind you and you fall into drug usage or careers deemed unsavory to make money, they don't appear to me at least to want to invest funds into investigating the crime.

When I was 17 my friend was murdered, she came from a bad background and had turned to using drugs way before then. All these years have passed and they still haven't found who did it. It was a violent murder, so there had to be evidence in the home. I could go on and on how the crime or investigation didn't make sense but I would literally have to type forever.

The one thing I know. If it was me, who happened to get involved in drugs and I was murdered they would've caught them in a week because of my family and name even if they had to bring in outside sources to solve it.

That is truly unjust.

waiting for more excuses for Rigged election when Trump /Biden loses . :ihaha:
If Trump actually wins this November I'm anticipating a riot during the weeks after.

Not the kind where the rioters stormed the capital building and yet did jack squat but the kind where public buildings and businesses start burning and bystanders get fucked up bad if they ever manage to get caught outside during a mob frenzy.

It will be the case either which way it goes.

There are already attempts of interference. That is what all these trials against Trump are for. Like the one or two people in these states attempting to remove Trump from the ballot telling people who they can or cannot vote for. I expect the Supreme Court to come back unanimously that states can not remove a candidate from the ballot because it's against the Constitution.

I would bet the Democrats in the Supreme Court are screaming right now watching their side hand Trump the election by trying to twist and rewrite the Constitution, which has opened up people's eyes.
[automerge]1709300137[/automerge]
My belief is Trump wouldn't even be on the road to being elected again if the left didn't start pursuing these frivolous charges and claims. It's made him the underdog and has resonated with people who have felt beaten down by the system for decades. It's also scary too, if they can make these charges stick to such a rich and powerful man, what can they do to us ordinary people? Desantis would be on Trump's current road to the election if none of this happened.

Trump getting cornered from all sides here. Trump getting hit with charges (tax fraud?) from all sides and you got the occasional raep callout that got flung out from the catapault by E. Jean Carroll...

Wow! Sensational! Such words intended to make those you don't like look bad (an understatement)!

You guys remember that Jonathan Majors incident where he got accused of SA and domestic abuse (he ended up being innocent in that case btw)? It's a shame that the callout tactic is so effective even if the perpetrator was actually innocent because the consequences of such accusations are dire.

And this happens a lot!

It seems recently that black actor who used to play Kang was condeem of raep. But not so long ago Johnny Deep was falsely accused by Amber Head.

Here in "Brazil" (actually Italy and Spanish) we had football players condeemed of that too but not long ago we had Neymar falsely accused.

Those false accusations are harmful to the real victims and not brought up enough. The "me too" culture we had some years ago helped many women to false accuse innocent men because they could simply destroy their lives without having to prove anything.

And I'm unaware of the consequences those women faces for falsely accusing. I've heard someone suggesting that they should face the consequences that man would face if those accusations were true.
