Respect your brain, aknowledge its weakneses and strenght, don't just think you are better than everyone and immune to biases or you will end up defend fascists.
Recognizing that we are ignorant is but the first step, the second is learning to accept what challenges us when it is an ethical necessity.
I don't know a lot, and you are welcome to challenge what I share based on reasonnable evidences and rethorics like some are willing to do here.

Yeah, we arrived at a contextual geopolitical and sociological point where throwing the word fascism a lot is kind of a necessity.

Nothing new. This is usually what happens during late stage capitalism. As more wealth gets hoarded and extracted from the people, the government becomes more and more unable to meet the needs of the citizens. Lack of basic necessities means way more social unrest, so the government needs to redirect the ire of the people while consolidating more power to the oligarchs.
Facist Italy blamed the left and the US. Nazi Germany blamed the left and jews. The Trump administration is hardcore blaming the left and singling out trans people. They used government sites and mass federal emails claiming the left for the govenrment shutdown, and encouraging federal workers not to support the democrats.

That's because it's not the left. The left is indeed weak in America, but democrats's shock is only a result of them not being leftist enough to understand the problem and the fact that it has being prepared for a looooooooooong time.
Centrist and liberal combined with rightist and generation of conservatist, are the agent that allowed fascism to happen in the first place. Their combined politics created the situation of crisis that we are in (because it's not just in America, it's Europe too). It's sadly a political constant.
Capitalism needs to survive and all of these actors are the steps this system needs to walk on to stay afloat. Until the situation becomes too extrem for people not to be able to maintain the spread of hate and inequalities without pushing capitalism into it's limits and finally... overdrive.. with a complete fascist takeover.
All of this is sadly as predictable as the weather. Which is highly frustrating.
Systemic problems are to be resolved through systemic solutions. As long people won't understand this, oppressive systemic cycle will repeat themselves in any kind of environement.
Whether it's a world, a country, a city, an institution or a social circle like this forum.

Right is simply being opportunistic because Left is leaving the vacuum for the Right to fill in.
Let's be real - Left though talk about progressive values and minority rights, but they are often too idealistic or disconnected with ground realities.
People have traditional values in which they take pride on. And, any progressive change comes gradually and from within. Left has been pushing them from the top and you know what happens when we challenge people's values or comfort zone? They resist. More so, when Left has developed tendency to throw labels like candies.
Majority simply feels disconnected with the Left and Right fills that vacuum. Result? Rising rightist governments across the World.
Even their focus on redistribution and welfare makes people feel disconnected because what people actually cares about is individual growth, job, stability and efficiency. Left simply doesn't connect with the majority.

As such, anyone who participate in such repression is fascist. It's - for once - really simple political logic.
