Leaving being out of the question.. what would you do?

You are looking at a change of strategy and behavior in real time. Do you feel like this is someone that can't reflect? Be honest. This work brought me so much understanding that it was a damn good win. What I hated, on the other hand, is not being able to be understood. And it's still the case.
