Questions & Mysteries How did Mihawk make a black blade and Roger couldn't??

#61
While I think CoC is part of the equation (as CoC is also will and ambition, including forcing your will and power upon the blade), I think armament is a key aspect, since it is both used to harden and blacken the blade and make the swordsman to "cut everything and nothing, as he wishes", while ACoC mostly works as an amplification of whatever you have, rather than giving new properties.

Mihawk and Ryuma certainly didn't have a black blade simply because they had stronger conqueror's Haki. Zoro even wondered about phrasing it "forging" a black blade, while Road to Laughtale asked, whether Haki alone is enough.

I do think blackened CoA haki is one of the main components needed to create a black blade. That's where the color and hardness comes from. I think ACoC is the other main component needed to create a black blade.

If a blade user has to bend a blade to their will to master it. Then completely changing a blade into a black blade is beyond just bending the weapon to the users will. The only power capable of achieving that is CoC/ACoC.

The post from the databook was only talking about CoA haki. The scene showed Zoro adding CoA haki to his swords. Yes, I agree CoA haki alone is not enough to create a black blade. CoC/ACoC is needed.

Zoro had gotten his hands on the black blade shuusui.
But I don't remember any actual feat he achieved due to its blackness. Of course, as a high ranking meito the sword is hard and robust and all but that simply cannot be all you get from a black blade.

Thus, the only reasonable conclusion is you need to make your own black blade to get whatever feat it grants.

Therefore, Mihawk must have made his own black blade.

Inb4 muhh there's no special feat you get.
What use should a black blade have then if it's basically the same piece of metal only black.

They're indestructible and that's it:milaugh:

Firstly , they say Black Blade is forged through the strength of swordmen ; so it's a strength feat like Conqueror's Coating or Awakening of Devil Fruits .

剣士の力 Swordman's strength

All swords can become black swords.

After the fierce battle with Pica, Zoro recalls Mihawk's words: "All swords can become black swords." Later, in Wano Country, Gyukimaru, who faced Zoro, mentioned that Shusui became a black sword through Ryuma's battles. Perhaps it's not the swordsmith but the swordsman's strength that creates a black sword.
Secondly, It's forged through an history of battles yet Shanks who got that history couldn't do so which shows how weak he's to not achieve that since it's a Strength Feat .

King and Zoro defined what a Swordsman is.
King uses a Sword, but he doesn't identify as a Swordsman, he said that unlike Swordsmen, he is willing to bite his opponent if it will allow him to win.

Laughtale volume also suggests that a Black Blade is not create purely on strength.

Based on that, while you do need strength, and the strongest form of Haki, you probably also have to strictly be a Swordsman to acquire a Black blade.

Roger is shown using a gun in the Ed War against Shiki, so while he is skilled at using a Sword and possessing the strongest Haki, he's probably not a Swordsman like Zoro who will probably only ever use a Sword or Sword-based Martial art to win a fight.

We already know Blades have personalities and can test the user like Enma did, so it's probably possible that a Sword can recognise a true Swordsman and if you win your battles against other Swordsmen and prove to be the best, your Sword probably magically becomes a Black blade. At least, that's what make sense to me until we get a definitive answer.

Would a non swordsman have a beloved blade with a long history of battle that is his go to companion ?

Easy

Mihawk chose the path of swordsmanship using cutting techniques as his fighting style. Which means he has a peculiarity with CoA that can make him get a black sword.

While Roger used shockwaves with CoC blasts to shoot through his sword. I doubt even Roger knows cutting techniques like voat

They just have different quirks in terms of haki.

This ain't a videogame where you have to complete 20 raids, defeat 5 bosses and grip 4 players to magically get a new upgrade out of no where for no reason lol

Anyhow, Oda will either make Mihawk a god or he'll fumble the bag hard. No inbetweener

Didn't say Roger may not be a Swordsman, I said it's possible he's not exclusively dedicated to Swordsmanship like Zoro or Mihawk who only use blades to fight.

We saw him holding a gun in battle, so it is fair to entertain that his style of battle of similar to King who says he is not a pure Swordsman and he uses anything necessary to win a fight.

Is it impossible to have a beloved blade and also be a sharp-shooter? Don't think so, but until Oda gives more clarification, this is just my opinion.

Zoro the swordsman says that instead, lmao.

More evidence of Zoro using non-swords than Roger using non-swords. :milaugh:
Any other copium that needs to be addressed?

The gun was in chapter 0 where he didn't leave his ship and oda didn't finish his design.
It's no where to be seen in the oden or god valley flashback.
