Ding ding ding, we have a winner for the best analogy today!
If you look at pre-skip alone it at least has a shot for all of its worldbuilding and creativity (although you already have to discount storywriting).
If you take post-skip into consideration, too, it is nowhere near top 3 status. Not even close.

Not even close to being the best shonen manga in terms of writing.
If you take pre-skip alone, it at least had an outsider shot. Knowing how post-skip went, it is MILES away from a top-3 shonen now.

You can pout and be salty all you want, HxH is miles ahead of OP in terms of writing.
Any halfway objective manga reader will tell you that.
Heck, the 2011 HxH anime even made it into the IMDB top 40 of all series ever made (one of only 3 anime, the others being FMAB and Death Note), bc the source material and anime adaptation were so good.
If you feel offended by that, ok, not my problem. You can gladly continue to post how overrated HxH is, because you're pretty alone there lmao. I mean we even have a HxH vs OP poll here on this OP fanpage and HxH won by a landslide in the category "what is better written".
Even trying to compare OP to works like FMA or HxH is an insult to them, especially when you think about post-skip OP.

Berserk, Vagabond and Monster are good calls, but like I outlined in my other thread:
What does OP offer that any other "generic" shonen (how OP fans call them) like MHA, Naruto etc. doesn't offer?
Only real answer is always "well, its longetivity and Oda's work ethic".
That's about it.
Yes, it has 1053+ chapters, but in terms of actual storywriting it's as generic and basic as it gets.
Each arc has the exact same blueprint and you know exactly how it will end in the grand scheme (I also outlined that blueprint in the other thread). It's just really repetitive and not creative at all in terms of general storywriting.
That's also why I personally would never rank it as high as Death Note, HxH or Jojo.
OP for me falls right into the Naruto, MHA, DBZ bracket in terms of writing.
OP has other strengths, but in terms of storywriting it isn't close to Death Note etc. (and yeah, I won't even start with Berserk etc., that would be ridiculous).

Well, One Piece used to be in my top 3 before WCI but then second half of WCI happened and I finally woke up from Oda's brainwashing and now it's the worst manga I read because nothing ever happens. Important plot points keep getting pushed to next arcs or they get completely discarded and we never get answers. I know much about this story now then I did since Fishman Island, which is ridiculous.
