have read 20th Century Boys and liked it as well, but I try to limit my list to one work per author. This is true both in Manga or Films.

Never heard of the manga you mentioned before. Would you recommend it?
Watch the anime it's made by madhouse who basically made all the goat anime we know off Monster, Hxh etc. It's short but damn it's amazing.

It revolves around a group of Japanese teenagers after the 2nd world war that get to know each other in prison. It's pretty dark, sad but also very wholesome.

Will never leave my Top 5 period!

We need to see ending .
to me , most important thing is ending of manga.

AoT was very good and had huge potential . But i guess nobody dont like ending and aot wasted own potantial

new generation loves reading fighting scene so much . But odas weak side is that . However , storytelling and world building is number one . Not even close .

It's on my reading list as well. I don't wanna binge it when I don't have time, since I believe Urasawa's manga should be read carefully and slowly. Would you say it's close to Monster?

It's more ambitious in scale and scope than Monster, that's for sure.

I personally think it is indeed close to Monster, although maybe more from the heroes' side, because the villains, while more widespread and far outnumber Johan, does not necessarily have his character's depth, although this does not necessarily mean they are shallow. Also, Monster is gripping already from the first chapter, while 20th Century Boys took a while to get going.

Thanks. I'll hit you up when I finish it.

Wait, isn't the Holy Trinity of Jump+ kicking OP's ass in terms of quality and sales? You read none of them?
JJK, 65 million
My Hero, 65 million
Demon Slayer, 150 million
Attack on Titan, 100 million
...

One Piece, 490 million

Even if you count Super, no one is kicking Oda's ass. The series that does it has yet to begin

I am pretty sure he meant current sales not all time.

JJK had months where it sold like 20 million copies or more, maybe even 30. TR too.

The trend with probably continue with CSM.

"Current sales" builds the argument for OP as goat, because you have to specifically qualify in order to even throw another hat in the ring. The plain truth is that none of these titles will ever match OP in sales when it's said and done. Broke all records with sales over 500 million this year and held the #1 spot by year for 11 consecutive years. In 2003 alone it had 4 out of 5 slots for best selling volumes. The other titles do well but will struggle to knock each other around on the charts throughout their peak of popularity

Well, One Piece used to be in my top 3 before WCI but then second half of WCI happened and I finally woke up from Oda's brainwashing and now it's the worst manga I read because nothing ever happens. Important plot points keep getting pushed to next arcs or they get completely discarded and we never get answers. I know much about this story now then I did since Fishman Island, which is ridiculous.

But, like @Light D Lamperouge said, I'm talking about current sales and not all-time sales.

And I'm not sure how the current sales builds up OP's goated reputation while the news here displays that, per mid-June alone, OP does not even enter Top 10 currently: https://mipon.org/manga-popular-japan/

I think you're misunderstanding me. I don't mean the current accumulative number. I mean sales over a period of a week, month, etc.

OP is consistently missing or much lower.

This was Oricon's 2021 ranking of sales. OP sold 7 million something and was in 6th place

Now it's being steamrolled by Spy x Family due to the anime.

Soon the same will happen with CSM.

These are the charts from May and June

OP barely cracks top 10 or doesn't even manage that.

I have a simple taste and most seinen like berserk, 20th century boys, monster, and so on just never had this feeling that one piece gave me they just felt like good mangas that I won't reread ever or if I ever stopped reading for a while I won't go back to complete
my top 5
1. one piece
2. one punch man (would be my top 1 if Murata was releasing as frequently as oda)
3. tower of god (even if it is not a manga)
4. ousama ranking (simple manga yet it does not fail to fascinates me)
5. inuyashiki
6. baki

the problem is where were this manga before their anime came out, they would slow down and a new set of anime(their manga) would take their place with one piece still being there even if it is not as good as the top 3

CSM and Spy x Family in that picture are without the anime. CSM anime isn't out yet. Tokyo Revengers started in April that year.

They were there.
In 2020 without anime, and with only a few episodes of JJK out

Why would they having an anime be a bad thing? Of course anime improves popularity. Same happened with OP. And any other manga. Anime and longevity also helped OP get the number it has.

It's fine to love OP but it's also fine to admit that it has lost its popularity and the sales have been declining. That's a fact. The more problematic part is that it occurred in one of, if not the most hyped arc, and what was supposed to be its magnum opus.
