A "chosen by fate" protagonist isn't inherently bad if they're used properly.

Luffy being pirate jesus might honestly end up being pretty fitting lol, since he will probably end up dying to heal the world.

The reason why that didn't work with Naruto is that he was introduced as someone who was always looked down upon and wanted to prove the village he had as much worth as anyone else. He wanted to become a leader of the people through his own merits but was later basically given everything to him.

Luffy isn't here to prove anything to anyone, his ambition is a more of a personal one, as being the pirate king is about freedom and adventure, rather than actually being a king to the people. He might just end up as more of an avatar for the idea of ultimate freedom, that will save the world from the corrupt and sick goverment currently in charge, but will never actually rule anything.

Another comparison would be a character like Goku. He was always inexplicably powerful since the original DB, and later in DBZ it was revealed that he was the member of a straight up alien race that were just naturally powerful and became even more powerful as they fought. But that never ruined him because Goku's character was never about merit and proving himself, he's just a simple guy who loves to fight but always remains humble despite being pretty much a god at this point.

I haven't seen Naruto

All I know is AdCoC will definitely ruin the admiraL fandom once adCoC users nullify devil fruit powers :feelsokeman::feelsokeman::feelsokeman:
I'm personally not touched since Akainu will most likely take on Luffy, Kizaru on Zoro.

Akainu himself was hyped by Chinjao next to the yonko and regardless of the accuracy Zoro's CoC came into play out of the blue so nothing suggests this not to occur again at all.

I don't understand the problem here. You talked about "if you're not chosen by destiny at birth then you don't have a chance at accomplishing anything great".

But isn't that what talent is? You think LeBron became the best just because he worked really really hard? No amount of hard work will ever make you 6ft 9 inches tall. Talent is a real thing but what's the problem with that? At which point does hard work become talent and when you reach that point - does it really matter anymore?

You know how many 6'9 guys there are out there who suck at basketball? If LeBron didn't work his ass off he would've been one of them. And how many 6'9 guys are there who are good at basketball? But why aren't they as good as LeBron? Because they're either not as talented, they don't work hard enough or both. Similarly, how many conquerors are there who couldn't even make it into the top-tier? Having CoC alone doesn't guarantee your destiny - you still need to work your ass off and be talented enough to reach the top.

Lineage and strong bloodlines do exist and play a role in the real World. Coming from a great family and going on to do great things has happened all throughout history. There is no issue with that is One Piece, as that concept is riddled throughout all of Manga and fiction and general.

Where Naruto failed hardcore however is by having Naruto and Sasuke be actual reincarnations of God-Like beings. Them coming from strong Bloodlines and going on to be greats wouldn't have been a problem. Them being destined to fulfill their roles as reincarnations of the people who started it all was the issue.

why is that a problem with naruto tho

isnt luffy joyboy's reincarnation in the same fashion ?

the whole issue with naruto was that in part one they hammered in how ungifted/untalented he was only to flip that on our heads towards the end of the story. Never been the case with luffy however .

yes, Naruto started out as someone who was very clumsy and hardworking...infact Naruto started on the theme that a boy who is untalented wanted to become hokage....turns out he was the reincarnation of someone from senju clan.....even when he was revealed as a son of fourth hokage it was not affected much because he didn't inherit any of the talent of Minato...he was dropout like his mother....

And coming to one piece it was never about untalented child wanted recognition/approval from everyone, Luffy started out strong from the start...Oda never shied away showing the fact Luffy was special from the get go....Luffy wants to become pirate king just so that he can be freest man in the seas....there is still unknown yet childish dream he had that we have yet to know..."inherited will" is a core concept of One piece...I don't understand how one piece is turning into Naruto when actually it was other way around....

Idk, the analogy between zoro and naruto should prove that zoro has way more parallels with naruto

They both affiliate from one of the most infamous clans

They both have pretty similar goals of becoming the strongest

And they vowed over those goals and to surpass a certain someone

Both entail destiny.. one as a rival of Wss another as Ashura reincarnate... and both are affiliated with ashura like bruh

One has an untamable beast in him another is an untamable beast

Both get power ups in dire situation... Zoro (BOAT) and Naruto Kurama's chakra

The both grind more than anyone

both didn't have parents

Both have forged their legacy by themselves thus far.. (people saying naruto was destined to be great... nah it was anticipated that someone of jiraya's student will either bring Chaos or change the world so naruto decided that by himself... and zoro is destined to be the WSS he said that to kuma didn't he?)

Both will give their lives in protecting whats dear to them

Both trained in their Pretime skips (yes naruto trained for 10 years before he became a hokage)

What's your qualm... zoro is a dope character.. him having similarities with naruto is a great thing

It's not really a problem for me, but I was just saying in general as that seems to be the consensus as to why people started hating Naruto. I've been playing video games and reading Manga/Fictional Fantasy my whole life. I enjoy shit like this. If I didn't, I wouldn't indulge in it. But I can see where others do get tired of the same tried and true formula.

What people need to realize with One Piece though, is it started back in 1997. Oda has had a clear cut vision for how he has wanted to conclude the series, and the direction he wanted to take with it for over 20 years. He's not going to change that because the series has lasted over 20 years, and many other series have come and gone that have done what he set out to do before they ever started serialization. I don't blame him either, because why should he have to change his vision just because other series handled these themes half assed. At the end of the day I'll be satisfied with what route Oda chooses to go because I knew what I signed up for when I started reading. Luffy being a sort of "Chosen one" has been prevalent in the series for over 20 years. Not really sure why people are all of a sudden acting like this is some sort of new revelation.

its as you said
so many series have come and gone with similar themes and oda wouldnt change his original idea
by the time he 's in the middle of it
people are exhausted of that particular narrative
nothing to do with the story at all.

in either case luffy came from a strong family
garp
dragon
and we knew he had coc based on this prets . I think the reason why lee is complaining now is that zoro is not seen as the kid that was "born special" / some orphan in a small village in east blue.
the implication of coc is that you are .

personally have no issue with it
but I would have preferred if coc is something that was unlocked rather than something folks were born with as @RayanOO . one can even argue him getting coc is as of a necessity to become the wss, would kuina be able to no matter her ambition if she didnt have coc?
esp after seeing what it does in battle?
a lot of questions to be had.

Heroes and Celestial took the word right out of my mouth. Hard work is definitely the most important thing, but you cant overcome certain barriers irl only with hardwork. You dont have a chance of having a 6'9 height when your parents heights are barely 5'6. Lineage or bloodline or talent, whatever you call it, plays a very important role to be successful. There is one more thing in addition to hard work and talent. That is luck. Without luck, your hard work and talent might also fail. I guess thats not an issue for our protagonists who are the chosen ones.

Naruto and zoro are pretty similar when it come to character development.. you can reflect the same steps naruto has take which zoro has too..

Not a fair comparison. Luffy was never seriously portrayed as untalented child with impossible dream, that's the villain's trashtalk.
He was always stated to be someone big in the future and that's why Shanks bet on him since day 1, or how he mentions Luffy's words are just like Roger's, then we understand the D and it's will is a huge deal the also always tied with destiny, etc...

Zoro was already talented and hardworking as a kid and got Mihawk's attention as another future top tier, just not having a destiny plot like D. CoC is always making people freak and Marineford showed Admirals, Sengoku, Garp, Whitebeard and Mihawk being really surprised which lead to WB to take Luffy seriously ordering his crew to back him up directly. Rayleigh and Chinjao also made it clear that those who stand on top will more than likely have CoC.

The title of WSS implies Zoro gotta fight and stand on top of crazy powerful guys which is consistent with all the other stuff shown in the manga, so I don't see how CoC would ruin anything.
