He didn't send zoro to his death with his black blade or went all out with yoru on luffy.
They are the exact same Mihawk had no intention of killing Luffy we saw at the end of bartie mihawk declaring he wanted to see them again and they made a good team.
Few arcs later he even went to Pranks to show him luffy first bounty he was never going to kill any of them lol

Mihawk knowing luffy has potential doesn’t change the fact he was willing to end him in marineford twice if fate let it be

Mihawk was fighting and taking out fodder throughout all of marineford lol. Why draw the line when the opponent is semi competent
Again hate it all you want but it has been highlighted multiple times for both characters that they were mentally restricting themselves due to the difficult situation
Mihawk has no excuse

- Crocodile not having any issues challenging guys way above his pay grade despite being fodder to them
- Mihawk not having any issues challenging fodder but not wanting to fight anyone that would take any type of work despite his strength

This has absolutely nothing to do with cope. Starting with Ryokugyu against Shanks, Oda keeps on hitting the reader with excuses for why the Admiral did not perform as he was supposed to be, not mentioning that despite these nerfs they actually performed, some at least.
- Ryo and Fuji were lifted off of the RA allegations.
- Kuzan mentally conflicted against Garp and Garp even pointed it out twice.
- Kizaru don't need to say anything.
The formula is striking. Put an Admiral in a for him disadvantage and have him perform not as expected and despite that Kuzan established that fruitless Admirals can hang physically with Old Garp the Fist.
It is very likely that Oda reserves the first unrestricted Admiral fight for Akainu.
Look at the Gorosei. They came and were completely unrestricted. Absolutely no single excuse. They use every ability available to them and were enraged.
Let the apes be loud, they're all shaking due to an Admirals potential and since Oda so carefully handles them with the limitations I'm just confident the full unrestricted battle is coming.

What prevented Kizaru from taking out Lika Zoro before going for VP if you are using excuses about mental nerfs. What was Luzan excuse for getting bodied struggling against retired old marine until Shiryu finished the job.
