This is what I think about the different lane Mihawk (Zoro, Ryuma etc.) and Shanks (Roger, Ray etc.) are in. Let's take Mihawk and Shanks against Jozu.

Both are using haki to do this, but the difference is Mihawk is using his haki to buff his cutting property (a la Dragon Damnation), while Shanks is using his haki mastery to overwhelm Jozu with a shockwave slash (a la Kamusari).

This makes Mihawk the superior swordsman, because Shanks is unable to cut Jozu while Mihawk can. Shanks' swordsmanship was more crude. But...the end result was the same. Which is Jozu was taken down.

So while Shanks was the inferior swordsman for being unable to cut diamond like Mihawk could, this did not make him inferior in overall combat as he gained similar results in his own way.

Weaker swordsman =/= weaker overall even between two swordsman. Though in most cases that will end up the case, there can be exceptions depending on overall haki mastery. I see guys like Roger and Shanks as all rounders while Mihawk and Zoro are specialists.

I don't think Oda has any intention of making Shanks inferior to Mihawk. Zero. I think at this stage of the story it's clear to me that this is the case. I'm not gonna say Mihawk is weaker for sure either though, but his title cannot be used to place him above Shanks overall.

Yes sir. I see it exactly the same.

Imo Roger and Shanks use a hybrid style out of CoC infused ID CoA moves for (far) more power in attacks and all day CQC moves and when time calls they can still use top tier, but just non black blade enhanced, swordsmanship.
ACoA haki blasts >> human strength on average, hence CoC infused aCoA blasts >> CoC coated physical moves -> why a beast like Oden could get sent flying through half an island with Kamusari

+ max use of Wifi haki application & max lvl FS -> high top tier haki god.

That's why I don't think it will matter, Zoro usually surpasses his opponents by a considerable gap. I just don't believe in placing Shanks clearly below Mihawk, not with the way Oda treats the two.
