What you don't understand is that the refusal of the call to adventure has not been theorized by Campbell only because every good story has it, it's because that refusal serves a purpose in the story. It prepares the switch of the character's status from a passive, to a active agent in the story.

In other words, wanting to join the crew because of baseless reasons is WEAK in term of storytelling. It tells nothing, it's only places the character of Yamato has a vessel for a non personnal desire.Yamato still be passive.

On the other hand, if Yamato refuses to join Momo at first, this would create a personnal conflict in Yamato's development. It would create the ground for a switch.. from Yamato being passive, wanting to join the crew for baseless reasons, to actually taking their future and responsibilities into their own hand, taking what they thinks freedom is, and transforming it, to become their own reality by becoming something they truly wants to become: Accepted and free.

Indeed. It would be the same for Carrot.

Arbitrarily pointing out that other crew members refused out of issues they resolved is nonsense.

1. Nami actually asked Luffy first, then she left. So not the same thing
2. Usopp never refused, he was just never asked until the last second because Luffy considered him a comrade.
3. Robin joined on her own, then left to protect her crew. Not the same thing at all.

So whatever BS you see saying about Yamato frankly doesn't work. There are no "patterns" to adhere by. Yamato eaving with them and has ignored the fuck out of Momo in terms of actually wanting to stay. Actually staying would be the opposite of being free, so your point actually makes zero sense.

THe thing is.. a refusal has been setup for Carrot.
Nothing has been set up for Carrot because nothing has made her relevant.

You're assuming I have high expectations for Oda in terms of storytelling

Wano is done in what? 3-4 chapters at best? You really believe all of this will happen in that short amount of time?

:kuzanshut:

Doesn’t this chapter suspiciously feel like the ending of Alabasta

I wonder what happened at the end of Alabasta

Did Vivi join the crew
:kayneshrug::kayneshrug:
Uh, Vivi grappled with the idea of joining the crew for multiple chapters, then refused out of her princess duties.

Yamato does not have any sort of problem like this at all, and has consistently decided to join the crew. There is nothing for the character in Wano, and just like all the other baseless nonsense and theories thrown this arc, this is one of them.

We’ll see

Nothing has been set up for Carrot because nothing has made her relevant.
1. Nami asked for an alliance, she still lowkey hated pirates and only wanted to use Luffy
2. Eh I get his point, Usopp didn't feel like he could be a pirate.
3. Robin was also using the Straw Hats. Oda spelled it out via Kuzan, he's right in saying she wasn't really a SH until she decided to live

She's joining lol best to accept that 70 chapters ago when most people did.
:josad:
I can’t man. I went back and reread every single other Straw Hat joining the crew and their moments in the arc and it never felt this bad and much of a let down before.

She’s only had moment in 70 chapters which gave me a tiny bit of that vibe where she says to Kaido she’ll go out to see with them but it was literally a rip off of Jinbei telling Big Mom the same thing.

You guys are failing to see that a refusal doesn't necessarily mean that it must happen right at the beginning, in a story, it can actually happen later.

A refusal happens when the deep core values of the character are the most triggered or when the cahracter must make a huge choice.

.. and ALL the strawhats without exception have been through this.

Don't try to mock storytelling with me, it won't work. If their is no refusal on Yamato's part, her development will be weak.. period.

Nothing has been set up for Carrot because nothing has made her relevant.
Yes something has been setup. In fact Carrot could doubt herself enough to refuse to come back.. but I expect her to be convinced by Wanda back.

Yup.

I don't understand your #2, Usopp never said this. He literally was going to sail by himself to be a pirate.
