Yeah this chapter really confirms Yamao's future role as Momo's advisor.
Yamato here is doing exactely what she is suppose to : to mentor Momo ;)
So after the first cope of her staying because Wano badly needs protection didn't work out, now its that the guardian deity's main reason to stay is to be a life coach. You can't make this up lol.
Momo was begging the Retainers to not go to Onigashima right before the flashback and they still carried on.
Yamato left Momo to fend for himself even though he was clearly scared. The scabbards baby him and make sure there's always someone protecting him.
Yamato is stuck to Momo's hip. He tries to leave, then ends up right back with him.
She never went out of her way to be with him. Luffy had to order her to help him out both times. Even then, she left both times to do her own thing.

Scabbards went against his wishes as he cried like a child to delay the trip. They were still going. If they baby'd him, they would stop, listen, and attempt to calm him down.

They kept going for the ship anyway because it was for Oden. Both situations are similar where Momo is giving up to an extent and somebody that keeps coming back for Retainer Duty is giving it to him straight.

The situations might be similiar but the way Kin'emon and Yamato treat Momo is different, Kin'emon really acts like someone who's under him (and before he left, he made sure Shinobu was with him) while Yamato treats Momo like a proper adult

There's a clear difference between the scabbards risking their own lives and Yamato telling Momo to die fighting Kaido and leaving him to figure out how to save Wano.

Yamato's dynamic with Momo is just like what Luffy has with him, which Kin made a clear distinction of in terms of respect. They have no qualms telling him to risk his life and stop whining about his fears. The scabbards treat him as someone meant to be babied and protected.

Yeah for the most part, but last few interactions were clearly different. He told him directly, "nope". They have to go. No turning back.

Also, Yamato went from "you are priority" and "I will die for you" to "lets die together".

If he's meant to be baby'd and protected, why take him to Onigashima? They said they were all prepared to die. Can't protect Momo if you all die.
Same as Yamato saying let die together.

Exactly! Yamato went from someone who sounded like she was ready to literally give up her life for Momo to someone who put Momo on the same level as her!
To me, this clearly shows clear development on their relationship (btw before you ask, I think Yamato will definitely make Momo aware that she wants to go out to the sea with Luffy)

Damn. he's really still mad about this. :neesama:

The realisation dawned on him a lil too hard I guess. However, not the only realisation some should be having right now though, lmaooo.

Yamao is the figure Momo can look to for support. She's been helping him along the way in his journey. Now in this chapter we even have her teaching him how to better use his devil fruit.

Momo's inherited retainers are beaten and worn out. Missing limbs and some presumed dead. The support he would've had is broken, but he has Yamao there to take their place. As others already pointed out, you literally had the symbolism in this chapter too. Momo prays for Kin emon and Kiku to help him but instead Yamao comes to his aid. Carrying on their role.

At the end of the arc, who will need Yamao more? The straw hats, that will then be a yonko caliber crew. Or the 8 year old with a country in ruin, incapacitated retainers, countless enemies looming, and a world dependant mission on his hands? The answer is very obvious to me.
This has all been inevitable for months and now we're properly seeing the fruits of Oda's labour in developing the YamaMomo bond all this time.

She is his guide. The one he can understand the most. His partner. In a way, his own idol. She teaches him how he should act. How a shogun should act. And it's so patently clear that Momo needs her.

Contrary to what our resident sake brewers might think, no Oda did not build up this entire relationship from scratch just for shits n' gigs. He'd only do so if there was a purpose in Yamao and Momo being so close, going into the future.

He's spent next to zero time building any bonds with Yamao and the crew. Not a single straw hat even knows Yamao by name. Forget being seen as a family, or even a friend...the vast majority of the crew does not even know she exists... Meanwhile Oda spent all of her development time building up her trust and camaraderie with Momo.

Absolutely hysterical how blatant it is at this point. The two are sticking together.

Kanjuro kidnapped Momo and brought him to Onigashima. Also, they left Shinobu to protect him.
Same as Yamato saying let die together.
Yamato is saying Momo should die fighting too. The scabbards were talking about themselves.
