Now, regarding Yamato, I honestly hope she doesn't join (personal preference), but if she does I'm hoping for some solid flashbacks and character development. Right now it's looking like she might actually join, but Oda has done this sort of baiting before, so I guess we'll have to wait for now...

I agree with the wider looking, being Kaido's kid (who is build like a brick) and having his fighting style I would have loved her to be bulkier but alas Oda only has one body type for attractive girls so I'm not really surprised.

Newsflash - we don’t need every Straw Hat to fill a specific position for their inclusion in the crew to be justified. Zoro serves no concrete purpose on the ship, Robin’s title of archaeologist is virtually worthless except when they find a Poneglyph, and Brook the living Afro skeleton would have been Luffy’s friend even if he couldn’t carry a tune. Everyone who wants Carrot only says she could be a lookout, which is about as useless as it gets. Yamato can join in whatever fucking capacity and it wouldn’t matter a lick either way; she wants to leave Wano, she wants to join Luffy specifically, and you have to work harder to argue AGAINST her at this point.

Oda *always* gives a role to every SH crew member. If Yamato joins, she's getting one.

Although to be fair, from what it sounds like she's been chained up and can't roam outside Onigashima. So can't really bulk up normally like you'd think, And again this begs the question why would Kaidou make his daughter Shogun if he's been keeping her in Onigashima and making Wano New Onigashima, do they have a connection? Like two halves of a whole.... idk just spitting nonsense.

I guess it depends on whether she joins crew. If she does, she’ll need a long term goal because Wano’s borders will probably be open after Kaido’s defeat.

Yeah fair point, they're making different expressions. Not the most equal of comparisons. But again, that doesn't change the fact that they can still look very similar, to the point that confusion could be a legit possibility. Unlike with any other pair in the crew.

If we're being totally serious though we both know this is not an issue. Show me any One Piece fan in the community that genuinely struggles to tell the difference between Zoro and Sanji in even the slightest manner.

That's in no way comparable to Oda's well known issue with drawing women and half the fandom openly calling Yamato's design out as a reskinned Nami. Including people who really want her to join but are willing to admit the obvious.

That's the thing though. I often say things like Carrot's not ready to join atm and that she'll get xyz in the future. But I'd like to think that I provide reasonable answers as to why these things could happen and how I'm not just wishing that they would.

What's there to suggest Yamato will be given a permanent facial scar? Heck, Yamato's apparently been abused by Kaido since she was 8. That would've been a perfect source of a facial scar differentiating her that could be explored in a flashback perhaps. Why think that she'll get a scar now other than wishing for it to happen so that she can be more distinct from Nami so that she can join the crew?

Does he think them looking radically different from each other is a prerequisite for Yamato to join the crew ? I’m not sure.

We're not in Oda's mind so we can only speculate. Maybe she indeed does, it's just my opinion.
It's question of perception, I believe Oda would have tried to make her stand out more. Hell she already did "2 angry nami faces" in this chapter. Now These angry faces aren't exclusive to Nami but they're associated to her and you'll notice Robin never does these.
