For some, a familiar outcry:
Wah wah why Kin’emon no die?
Wah wah why Kaido no actually kill people?
Wah wah why Oda never kill characters I don’t care about?
I have news for you guys, just like your vegan cousins wedding at a Texas Roadhouse , this arc has no stakes.
So it looks like a considerable number of you guys are besides yourself with the recent (yet obvious) revelation that characters do not die in One Piece.
How could this be? You ask yourself.
This raid is supposed to have the highest of stakes!! You proclaim.
This is such poor writing on Oda’s part, the Scabbards should be torn limb from limb to justify the might of Kaido!! You assert.
Despite what your degrees from the School of Super Ultra Advanced Manga Writing might tell you that death is tantamount to portraying the severity of the Raid on Onigashima, a little bit of common sense and context would beg to differ. And when I say a little bit, I mean just a wee tiny bit of it.
The answer to why no named supporting characters or major characters will perish in the raid is simple:
There wouldn’t be a party afterwards.
Luffy is not going to get his groove on after burying Kin’emon or any of the Scabbards for that matter, but especially Kin’emon.
Honestly, it’s that simple. The end of arc party needs to happen and thus Luffy and the others can not suffer an emotional loss that will deter them from getting jiggy with it.
You guys are looking for a tragedy when you should be looking for your dancing shoes cause it’s almost party time!!!
