So what you are saying in short is that Luffy does all the work and Kaido be very close to collapsing and there we go our hero Zoro comes and take the credit!! Yes sounds like something Oda would do…
Why don’t we make it easier and have Kaido on the ground can’t left a finger and just on his back waiting for Zoro to slice his head?
Beyond my earlier thread about the requirements to kill Kaido. And the fact Luffy explicitly doesn’t kill.
Or the massive Ryuma parallels for Zoro and that Zoro opened this arc with murder.
This chapter all but confirmed ZKK.
Yamato is worn out already and her contributions are likely to diminish.
Momo isn’t that strong—his best move was to bite Kaido which he shrugged off a few moments later. He’s also now making an effort to stop Onigashima. He’s out of the fight.
Luffy’s only saving grace against Kaido is his haki. Oda has used depleting haki twice now in major fights involving luffy. And given Luffy is using Adv. CoC, FS and likely penetration Haki all at once? He’s got a fine time limit.
So how does this confirm ZKK? Well let’s look back into chapter 1026–Jack was defeated without much ceremony. The other Calamities are likely to offer 2/3 chapters of fights a piece before being brought down.
The fact Oda is going to bring them down so quickly likely means that Zoro/Sanji won’t be in bad form.
Now bringing us back to Kaido—I think we’ll see Luffy almost defeat Kaido but run out of juice. Had he just had a little more power, Kaido would’ve been done for. That’s when Zoro is going to finish the job and cleave Kaido’s head off.
He’s going to contradict his words to Kinnemon and not know when to die (to Luffy) and Zoro will finish the job.
Why Zoro? Beyond Ryuma parallels, no one else has the power to put Kaido down. Marco? He can’t even harm Queen permanently. Sanji? Lol. No, Zoro is the only one strong enough to finish Kaido off.
Luffy will defeat Kaido and destroy his club so he can no longer use his traditional fighting style. Then Kaido will fully awaken, like the Jailer Beasts. Then Zoro will fight and kill awakened Kaido over the Flower Capital.
These panels will either make a lot of sense in hindsight or no sense at all.
The expectation for Zoro for a majority of fans was always for him to fight King.
So why bother creating this entire idea of Zoro wanting to slay Kaido because he's known as the world's strongest?
It's not like Zoro needed that motivation to go to the rooftop.
He could have simply gone to the rooftop only because he wanted to help Luffy, Kin, and the others.
But no, Oda creates this "I only came to Onigashima because I want to slay Kaido" idea. Why?
Why bother with this if it doesn't matter in the end and if it's not necessary to bring Zoro to the rooftop?
Seems a bit odd, no?
If Zoro doesn't end up getting to slay Kaido.
He just ends up looking like an arrogant idiot, and the moment loses all impact since it's just a stupid throwaway scene that's given attention (for no reason).
Which is interesting is that no one actually killing Enel lead to him realizing his dream. Even after Luffy beating, even after Sanji destroying Noah engine, Enel still reach the Feary Vearth like he dreamed to.
Which seems to indicate that Luffy did not destroy his spirit with his fists.
In fact this is just an argument for ZKK rather than against it, Imo.
