General & Others Oda needs to learn from Togashi on how to handle power ups and fights.

Does HxH and Naruto handle power systems and fights better than One Piece

Oda had a perfectly good power system in place with devil fruits, all he had to do was not create haki and we wouldn't have this power escalation problem; fights shifted towards who has the better haki wins and since everyone uses haki in more or less the same way there isn't much room left for uniqueness, it's like in dragon ball where everyone fought the same way more or less and the villain of the week was stronger than last week because he did everything the same just better and haki is like that. Oda could've just stuck to DFs and had characters apply them in unique ways, like adding more dimensions to a shape; everything stays fresh and personalized. But Luffys new gear is definitely a step in the right direction, anything that moves away from bland haki fights and more of what early one piece had the better, besides the whole Mythical Zoan Sun God part......everything else about it is great.
haki would have been fine if it was like nen, where its power was dependent on training, ingenuity, or sacrifice.

But the major issue is the haki blooms. They're just free un-earned power ups that only Luffy really seems to benefit from.

So he just wins less often? His pride stops him from playing all his cards?
Have you read HxH ? Im assuming you havent.

Gon's loss to win ratio is flip floppy. He gets more Ws as the show progresses, because he starts the show as a completely low tier noob who cant fight. As the series goes on he gets more and more wins. Even against opponents that should best him. He wins due to stategy.

His final fight was kinda Luffy-like. He got a giant PU, but unlike Luffy that PU came with consequences. He lost his nen (powers) , his giant potential and nearly his life.

Gon cant just fuck about and become looney toons lmao. He cant just be saved constantly like Luffy. HxH world is unforgiving and relentless.

Oda really should have made Luffy come out of the timeskip as YC1 level, knowing at least one form of advanced haki. That way the power ups wouldn't have been nearly as forced.

Oda could have developed ACoC in WCI with linlin, with wano focusing on awakening.

I agree, but I also just don't see the need for Haki to exist in a world like one piece, it always felt out of place. This is a series about a tough rubber boy, not some guy who can see the future and shoot out black lasers.

Caesar beat Luffy without any Haki. Kaido doesn't have better Haki than Luffy. Katakuri had better Haki than Luffy. Sanji didn't improve his Haki to beat Queen. Law and Kid still don't have better Haki than Big Mom. Etc

I haven't, but it seems awfully hard to explain why Gon is better. He's not as lucky except he loses his hand and gets it back. He loses his Nen. Does that seem permanent? Isn't he like 12 years old? Wasn't Luffy like 0 and 50 against his brothers back then? Luffy waited until he was seventeen because the incidents with Shanks and Sabo taught him lessons. Has Gon hit a wall where have to go train for two years to surpass his limits? Did he come out of the two years still struggling to beat mid level opponents?

Funny thing is when I think about Wano, I always draw parallels with Chimera Ant arc but instead of comparing Gon with Luffy, I do it with Kaido and Meruem.

Both are extremely powerful and something the main character seemingly cannot beat in a fair fight. But what makes Meruem far better than Kaido is
- character development
- that he does not fight against the protagonist, because he doesn't have a good reason to

If Oda needs to learn something from Togashi, it's how to write villains. Luffy is okay how he is, but sometimes I would like Oda to explore a more dark side of him just like Togashi did with Gon. But let's be honest, that's impossible if the One Piece world is not threatening enough and if his Shonen main protagonist abilities make him able to change his environment to his will. It contradicts Oda's picture of Luffy and the very basic message One Piece tries to convey.

Oda sensei is pulling a Dragon Ball out of One Piece at long last when it comes to power creeping :josad:

He had already done that in Enies Lobby but it turned blatant to the next level

He loses and breaks limbs to show the hardship and the struggle. Most of the times it gets injured, he doesnt even win his fights. Luffy legit heals in mere seconds and has thr most inconsistent endurance.

And yes Gon isnt lucky. Sure he gets ways by the end to heal. But im talking about during the fight. Gon literally has zero help and zero PUs in most fights.

Luffy's fighs with his brothers wrre unserious flashback fights. Thsts hardly anything to compare.

Gon has gone in training for months yes. Literally had several training arcs. Hes trained and worked more for his PL than Luffy's Gary Sue ass ever has. Sure hes never trained for 2 years. But thats because hes growth rate is high and his training is rigigourous.

And idk even know hy your bringing up training when Luffy literally jump tiers mid fights and gets free PUs. Training isnt even important for anymore. Hes grown more in fights then in training. And that logic is stupid.

Anyways ive already explained why Gon is better in my first post. Hes less plot reliant and his fights are more sensible and make more sense.

Luffy beat Doflamingo with a form that depends on haki, needed future sight to beat Katakuri and unlocked three types of advanced haki against Kaido to compete with him; in the three most difficult fights Luffy had in the series thus far Oda chose to make haki apart of it, again what I'm saying here is that this concept doesn't need to exist, it's very one dimensional, repetitive and is used by Oda as a scapegoat to make Luffy win and win in a fashion that just doesn't fit his character; Luffy should triumph because of his creativity and childlike applications of his DF, as he did in early One piece, that's what Luffy is about and haki took a lot of charm and creativity away from the story until recently with awakenings.

there was a need for there to be some sort of thing that could balance out hax DFs(albeit the twist concerning Luffy's DF greatly reduces this).

I think berserk power ups were very logical.

You have the behelit as well as weapons upgrades and magic. And none of it ever seemed BS. Guts gets the dragon slayer as well as a mechanical arm, then he gets the berserker armor, then he was about to master the berserker armor in elfhelm before miura died.

Yes and for that he loses his nen and his life.

Compare that to Luffy who has zero consequences other than shortening his bullshit life span.

or kurapika defeating the leader of the phantom troupe when kiluas dad and grandfather could not do it
Restrictions.

Kurapika is restricted to only using his chain jail on Phantom Troupe members. Hence why its so powerful. His powers were literally forumlated to fight them solely in comparison to other Nen users who train for any opponent.

That and he caught Chrollo by suprise and pratically sneaked attack him in the dark.

Try again

gon would have gotten his nen back if he the manga was not on hiatus

Sure. But it wouldnt be the same. His entire moveset would highly likely change into somthing else. He wouldnt be the same Gon.

Plus hed also have relearn Nen ....as his body wont magically cope to it.

That one PU would have consequences to change him entirely as a fighter and literally sets him back to level 1. Even if he gets Nen....hes fucked.
