Speculations Oda will make Smoker Kid or Law’s rival instead of Luffy’s

Certainly looks weak on paper but there is a reason why Oda introduced smoke as the first logia, giving it narratively the most importance in the whole show. It performed quite well vs Vergo who himself is a solid fighter in CQC and Smoker outdid him there, mainly because of his smoke body. Smoker was never weak to begin with, he was in High Tier when we saw him on Punk Hazzard.
Certainly he did lose and would lose to Doffy regardless of anything but the way it happened cannot be used against him because he was just beaten up by Vergo. This is no different than Admiralbros praising Aramaki for beating up the defeated and crippled King.
There is no magic formula for Tashigi to rival Mihawk while he might have some magic formula for Smoker to rival Luffy.

I think he could beat Snack. He certainly should be on the bottom of that tier.

However, a little buff in firepower and he will be solid High tier, not among the strongest but good middle.

Thats the thing: smoke logia's fire power is BAD.
Smoke is good for utility and hindering movement, but that's about it.
His haki could improve, but oda would have to power creep smoker in order to get him fighting with high end high tiers, let alone have smoker posing threat to top tiers.
Jack is durable even without his zoan, how would smoker harm him?

He is kinda like Luffy regarding that, his firepower is/was also bad.
Now that I think about it, Smoker and Coby parallel Luffy and Zoro.
Smoker is all about DF, just like Luffy. Meanwhile, Zoro and Coby are hakimen.
If Luffy's big moment was Awakening, Smoker's will be the same, I guess.
Hard to imagine anything would change but hey, it's always down to Oda's pen to make it effective...

Luffy's power is slowly, but surely getting revealed to be about imagination aka whatever luffy wants, how is smoker supposed to counter this? I believe much more in EoS coby becoming somewhat of a threat towards pirates than smoker.
Also, pretty much all top tiers are hakimen aswell.
Only differences are plain hakimen and hakimen + DF.
