The fact that Luffy wasn't allowed to use either future sight, snakeman or tankman in that fight because of PIS to progress the plot to him going to jail and taking his required loss to hype up his antagonism with Kaido, to hype up Kaido's strength and dehype Luffy as the 5th emperor isn't really a fair assessment of pre-Udon Luffy's strength, it was him going in half cocked without knowing his enemy's hax defense, like Crocodile round 1 basically. Since then Luffy's base stats, motivation, damage potenital and haki control have all skyrocketed leading to massive fighting potential growth, when he was already a proven YC1+.
Kidd better have awakening and some serious DF Hax to close the gap, because otherwise it's going to seem strange for him to be fighting on/near Luffy's level- more likely Luffy will be the most relevant in the fight and pull out multiple trump cards, considering this first salvo is already a new devastating power up.
