Okay so I just read the chapter, and since
@Topi Jerami tagged me, two things:
1. We know Kaido has already been defeated by weaker members of the Navy than the Admirals, so Kaido not bringing up an Admiral here is irrelevant, especially because we already know that people like Oden and Shanks are weaker than them anyway.
2. Luffy is a Pirate, trying to become the Pirate King, so of course Kaido isn’t going to perceive him as being similar to an Admiral who don’t share that ambition lol. The Admirals already embarrassed the strongest Yonko at Marineford, there is no reason to remind us that they are above mere Kaido lol.
Anyway, kind of a disappointing chapter like I said in the spoiler thread. Nothing really happened worth talking about except for Kidd’s new form, which didn’t seem to have much effect on Kaido at all really.
But I’d once again like to bring up my disappointment with Wano, which never stops letting me down.
Oda in 2018:
“I feel like fans would be disappointed if Luffy defeated Kaido because his punch was so strong. Luffy and I will have to put our heads together to find something more creative.”
If 2018 Oda could see himself in 2021, I wonder what he would be thinking, given that Luffy’s entire Wano character arc involves him just getting stronger punches, and the final Chapter 1000/Chapter 1001 moment where he and Kaido begin their battle just involves every character fan-gasming about how strong Luffy’s punch is and the fact that a punch would work on Kaido.
Oda has failed to live up to his own standard that he set for himself, objectively. Once again Oda shows that he is fantastic at creating hype but utterly abysmal at following through with said hype, and really the entirety of Wano has been a testament to that point, with this moment here as the best example.
This is it guys. Luffy’s entire arc in Wano was just getting a stronger punch. There wasn’t really anything else to it. Even Zoro’s whole story in Wano was just Enma and not much else. The entire rest of the story was devoted to Oden and the Scabbards, and was poorly executed at that because most don’t care about the scabbards and were just waiting on Zoro and Luffy to enter the scene anyway.
Wano is the One Piece arc that keeps on disappointing, non-stop. Anyway, not a terrible chapter, but not really a good one either lol.
