Honestly tbh, this a great way to show ruthless Shanks is and remind people of this precedent Shanks and his crew set at the beginning of the story too:

Even though its at the complete expense and annihilation of the Kidd pirates and thus Kidds dreams/ambitions (for now at least, hes gonna bounce back regardless imo, just like after what happened with Kaido), this is what I've desperately needed to see from Shanks and in the series again too.
This brutal reminder/reality check and grittiness/savagery is what we've needed so badly. Shanks is the king of reality checks and his "checks" don't "bounce" lol.

He never hyped it. He said kidd had it yet he gave zoro advanced coc and luffy advanced coc and made kaido say "only the strongest in the verse can have it". The moment that was said we should have deduced that kidd wasn't getting it.

Coc alone doesn't make you one of the greatest as shown with Don chinjou

His CoC was revealed in Wano and could've easily been unlocked later down the line

Will for Zoro it does he will face Mihawk who wants a challange stronger than his rival Shanks. But if kid doesn’t participate in final war his only W would be BM 2v1. While sanji will have a gurantee Admiral fight 1v1 thus will look better than kid. Sanji already looks better than kid feat wise Nvm Zoro.
