Very touching flashback that is building towards Saturn being the main villain of Egghead and Nika liberating both Kuma and Bonney from Saturn.

How did Robin join Crocodile? Was she a founding member of the BW? Not all questions need to be answered in the manga, and sometimes SBS get the job done just fine. Lol, Kuma having history with Saturn makes it very important because his flashback includes Saturn the main villian here. This flashback needs to explore the tension between Kuma and Saturn so that Kuma can come and save Bonney.
Just because you don't understanding anything doesn't mean anything is wasted.

One of the best flashbacks for sure, Kuma is an amazing character.

Not just in terms of backstory but his overall character is just really interesting.

Kuma is a former King, a Rev, a Pirate, a former Warlord, a Cyborg, Step father of Bonney, and a Buccaneer.

On top of all that, he was a antagonist during Thriller Bark who gave Zoro that nothing happened moment.

And finally he was the one that defeated/separated the Straw Hats.
