I can see you’re point, Luffy does reckless things without thinking it through.... However, Luffy will very rarely act in such a way that could potentially cause harm for others/those he cares for, like the case with Roger knowingly leaving his child without a father. But I agree with you that to a degree, the basis of their personalities are very similar.

- saved by storm in his fight against Shiki's crew
- defeated Xebec, strongest pirate in his era, only after teaming up with marine
- avoided Big Mom because he can't hurt her homies
- "let's make a child so he goes to Raftel!!" despite knowing his remaining lifespan and how his child will be treated badly because he is world criminal's son

Based on everything we have. The Greatest Pirate is Roger without a doubt, not even a contest at this point. The man accomplished more in 50 years of life than Newgate did in 70+ years.

First every being natural desire is to create an offspring its instictive also wishing a child even if he is dying is not a bad thing if he can support him he gave him to Garp a marine he could also entrust him to one of his crewmates but gave him to marine whic was the best way to protect and raise him
