I love how uptight young Rayleigh can be. He's like the Hank Hill of OP.
You can see Shanks in the second panel with his mouth open in shock/excitement at watching Momo's sword training. It was obviously a lot more exciting and thrilling to him than his own training, ostensibly given by Ray.
Ray's been kind of a grouch to Buggy and Shanks before, and we've seen him get onto Roger. He really seems to have mellowed out with age, and by the time he had Luffy as a student, he had a bit more patience than he had during his pirate days.
This also fits perfectly with my fanfic, where Ray is Mihawk's dad but they argue too much so Mihawk was sent off to sword school, haha
My scenario is the same as Oda's (he's angry in winter and he in fact seems to use makeup) but mine actually uses more rhetorical tools to communicate the events and describe a natural progression instead of simply showing Denjiro angry and later stating the reason of his change. There's no much brains in how Oda told Denjiro's transformation, basically; he went the easy way.
Kaido said "Perhaps there's a spy in your castle", I think this was to sow seeds of mistrust amongst Odens men.
I predict the traitor reveal will be underwhelming. Kaido probably has an insect df user, a literal fly on the wall whose been keeping tabs on Oden and anyone he deemed a threat.

Am I trippin or did oda forget how gigantic kaido was ik this is in the past but just look at kaido vs oden when kaido hits oden with the club and look at kaido’s dragon form it still is the same size as the present really weird I really want this flashback over but from what someone pointed out the flashback not gonna end until chapter 975 so we have wait and endure two more weeks smh and mind you that break is going to hit after every 4 chapters so when this flashback is done before we see the present and luffy and co. we’re gonna get another break smh I said flashback were important which is true but I take back what I said this flashback needs to end I like oden but no offense he died why are we still seeing him on rogers ship with momo and co. ridiculous I still can’t get over how that kaido vs oden fight went down that’s gotta be the worse fight ending in one piece aside from oden giving kaido that scar reminds me of jozu vs aokiji smh but hey how much more can we take 2 weeks two chapters flashback will be finished on chapter 975 I’m tired of momo and this child of prophecy stuff I like how kaido vs luffy was foreshadowed or presented on punk hazard or dressrosa or zou or whole cake island spoiling that luffy is gonna beat kaido is annoying like sheesh I thought Toki power was to time travel like back to the future the movie type stuff not seeing images of the future while she still in the past I thought only sharly from fishman island can do that i want this flashback to end the pacing has gotten slow and the manga is starting to become like the anime I want to see the present and the traitor
Sorry if anyone already touched on this, but it’s a little enlightening to finally learn the true start of the tension between Inuarashi and Nekomamushi...always thought it was kinda odd that they ended a decades-long argument just because Momo said so, but that moment has a lot more emotional impact now - they saw that the heir of the man who saved their lives multiple times over didn’t want them to blame one another for his death, and decided it was no longer worth fighting over
