By the end of this saga, Kaido will definitely be defeated, and Luffy will solidly be established as at least on his level. The alliance will likely suffer a big blow in between, but in the end, there’s no doubt that they’ll be victorious. If the yonkou look out of Luffy’s reach currently, think back to how Crocodile and Lucci were untouchable (literally in Croc’s case) when they were introduced.
The story is falling back to its usual patterns, and it’s too close to the end for yet another set of training arcs. Big Mom’s struggles in WCI and Kaido getting knocked around by Luffy weren’t gags, they showed us that Luffy was already nipping on their heels, and with a few power ups can potentially best them.
Since the timeskip, Luffy has viewed the yonko and admirals as a solvable problem. When he got imprisoned by Kaido, he got to work figuring out how to solve it.
This alone puts this chapter as one of the best in a long time.
Yeah, Shinobu looks inches away from death.
