No the joke is Oda's writing right now, for plot reasons he's purposely not allowing the BMP on Onigashima. There were plenty of time for the BMP to learn about the alliance and arrive at Onigashima, you can bash and make jokes on the BMP but the reality is Oda is the one who fucked up here.

Ofc they can't. They are up against two Yonko where Luffy gets ko'ed by Apoo. Oda needs to improve his writing cause his characters lose credibility each arc.

Oda is very bad with power scaling and sometimes the arcs get too crowded too fast. I have no idea why oda decided a yonko alliance was the best thing, but here we are.

That's pretty much what he is doing but I think he could do it in a better way, I still believe the BMP will eventually arrive at Onigashima and the alliance of both the Beasts Pirates and the BMP will defeat the Straw Hat alliance.
