You started from judging character past and then jumped to actual plot line? How this could be related? Sasuke in plot was just Kishimoto tool, who didn't know how to write sasuke character after battle against Itachi.
If you talk about character past, only few characters could be compared to Sasuke: Kurapika(HxH) and Sango(Inuyasha). Sasuke wasn't orphan from the begining, but at the age of 8 yo he lost all his family, more to that his own brother killed em all, show him that in vision for 24 hours tsukuyomi and broke his mind. After that he knew that he has to kill Itachi, or Itachi will kill him. What exactly you compare to that? Gaara? He have brother and sister, why he should even feel bad?! He was spoiled brat. Naruto? Well, his past is questionable...he was like friend in flashback with Kiba, Choji and Shikamaru...he was called as s monster only once by that guy who wanted scroll. He was alone...but someone raise him right?! Hos loniness is nothing compared to broken childhood that Sasuke have.
