As much as I like some of these fruits, I wish we would just skip to Hybrid. Every time I see a full zoan I tune out so quickly. I’ve said it before, but you’d think that Zoan users of this level would just immediately go hybrid when fighting. What is the advantage of becoming a slower, bigger target?

Out of all of them, I probably like Whos Who Sabertooth. Black Maria’s needs some explaining. I understand that Oda probably didn’t want to disfigure a pretty lady too badly, but that doesn’t explain the face on the lower half of her body. That’s kinda all there is to this chapter. It’s just devil fruit reveals, they’re good but nothing that would blow my mind.

Raw strength. You're more cumbersome and stuff, but you have more strength. Also who's who looks like the Cheshire Cat.

Awakened zoan probably has a high stamina drain, so full zoan has it's uses, also certain zoans like lucci's and marco's can be quick still.

I mean the actual spider it's based off of... never heard of it but it feels a little of a disservice to her.

Raw Power. The Full Zoans are Nukes. Especially at that size. Hybrid forms are ICBMs.

  • Drake looks cool with spikes on his tail. I like to think he figured out how to unlock multiple beast forms like Rob Lucci has two hybrid forms, but Oda probably corrects it later.
  • I like that Queen tries to convince the goons to take back the antidote, but they're no longer buying it. At least Apoo is on his side. No surprise since the man is getting ganged up on by the alliance.
  • Completely forgot about Sasaki's sword. That's a good argument for why Sasaki's hybrid form will shrink back down so he can use it. Even if it extends to a whip, current Sasaki could only grab that thing between his very fat fingers.
Good explanation. Phoenix Pyreapple is an excellent translation too. The fire is just using up people's stamina so their own bodies up their temperature. Marco inducing fevers. That temporarily stops the Ice Oni from advancing. Marco himself told us in Sphinx island he can't actually heal others more than a little amount. So even if he went around burning his allies like this in Marineford: 1) The healing would be very minor. 2) It would be a waste of his talents. Marco should be a frontline fighter and not in the back acting as a healer. That's why he's flying off with Zoro, Robin and Brook and leaving the doctoring to Chopper.

Let's be real here - this is a jinx. No different from Hyo's earlier chapter title.

This is going to come back and bite them. Oda has yet to paint the scenario where it looks like the entire alliance is on the verge of defeat. And two Yonko will certainly make it happen.
Sasaki confirming dragons aren't real? He's not an archeologist or scholar, no reason to believe him. Zunisha is stronger than the dinos in Little Garden, for one. In the One Piece world it seems like Dragons and Dinos are part of the same family, so he could be right in that sense.
I get it now. Maria's animal form NEEDS the human figure in order to stop Sanji from hitting her. A female spider would get its ass whooped. This is not some clever get-around so Sanji can fight Maria by only attacking the spider portion, but the reverse. The spider is protected as long as Sanji thinks it's part of the woman. Sanji already freed his legs from the webs, he's free to stay here and defend or run away. Sanji being attracted to monster women is freaky to me, but another good moment showing he's not as vain as previously thought. Or maybe that's his fetish.:sadgrin:

I'll throw in my own prediction that Maria's hybrid form will show us her true ugliness. People have been saying Maria is potentially a traitor or a spy and she didn't like seeing Momo beat up and has retreated from battle. That's part of her game. She's been hunting just like a trapper spider would by luring prey into her hidden layer to get caught in her webs. Maria was playing tricks. When she's forced to get dirty herself rather than rely on her webs and minions, we will see her true nature emerge with a change to hybrid. Pretty Maria will become an ugly arachnid woman with a hideous personality to match.

With this Jolly Roger, I think it's safe to assume at least 4 of the Flying Six (WW, Sasaki, Maria, Drake) were former pirate captains. Each of their little thematic little groups containing most of their pirate crew, except X-Drake probably who sent his crew into hiding for their own protection. Should X-Drake get exposed, he would not only have to worry about his own life but his entire crews.

Am I the only one calculating the ridiculous odds of these groups existing? 10% chance to get a Gifter out of SMILE, but Black Maria/Sasaki/Who's Who are surrounded by at least 50% Gifters. Not just that, but the Gifter powers happen to match their theme. WW might have some cat minks. If these are their former crews, they pretty much all hit the lottery or the losers got abandoned.
Another stunning line from Jinbe. This man highly respects his captain Luffy, the Strawhat crew, and his position on that ship.

Of course, all the Strawhats are extremely loyal to Luffy and we saw it put to the test the other chapter with Nami's life on the life. But I think Zoro and Jinbe just go a little further beyond.

Who's Who's saying I saw you once back when you were a Warlord doesn't seem like a significant connection. I even think it's a throw away line. Jinbe doesn't recognize a man who can transform into a Sabertooth or his crew of cat fetishists? They must have been a widly different crew before they joined Kaido. They just saw Jinbe, no signs of any interaction taking place.

Regardless, Jinbe fighting a cool crew of cats in their playground of scratching posts and platforms is exciting. Jinbe's not a nimble man on land so his enemies will be using full use of their environmental advantage. Should he find a water source, I could see Jinbe splashing these furballs and ending the battle quickly. Yes, grandma is getting punched too. Maybe throw in a line like
:jinbewat: Sorry kitties, you thought I was a fish but I'm actually shark.

Or he breaks WW's mask, sees him fainted on the floor only to respond
:jinbewat:. Nope, never seen you before in my life.

If next chapter is an Ace flashback, I'm expecting it to be a very short one. I don't see Chapter 1000 just being part 2 of the Ace flashback. Ace Vs Kaido would a nice highlight, but just cannot live up to Oden vs Kaido which had a long build up and ultimately led to the entire situation today. I am very interested in understanding why Ace never told Whitebeard. It could be a sense of shame, a promise he made to seal his lips, hearing about Toki's prophecy, etc. Ace's adventures and how Ace led the Spade pirates interest me in general.

I gotta say Black Maria is the least intimidating Tobi Roppo. Out of all the Tobi/SH matchups, I can see the Robin vs. Black Maria as the most probable. I'll give it 2:1 odds that it won't happen but still a 1 in 3 chance is decent for Robin. At that point I'll say Black Maria is no stronger than Trebol/Diamante.

None of the other SHs have shown anything to suggest they could solo a Tobi Roppo though.
