So yeah, that was a great episode that was entirely carried by its action animation.

Tu Yong Ce, an animator that only joined the show a year and a half ago, animated the overwhelming majority of the action in this episode, apparently animating over 180 cuts. His contributions despite being so plentiful, were still of an insanely high caliber. A great personal achievement for him. Aside from that, a few of Tu’s buddies, either Chinese animators like Junwen Tan who handles mainly effects, or Pokémon affiliates, like Maenami who animated the excellent Kong Gun. The final clash was animated by none other than Naotoshi Shida, whose return to the show is a pleasant surprise, even if his output was more of the same. Sanda, another foreign animator, handled the action between Law and Hawkins.

Direction and storyboard wise, the episode was nothing to sneeze at, but it was definitely the exemplary visuals that elevated it all.

Overall, easily one of the top three best animated episodes of the entire show and an excellent way to end off the decade. Although covering less pages than last episode, this one felt better paced, probably due to the nearly non-stop action for most of the episode. They definitely did the Kaido fight justice and then some.

ps: also worth noting the three best animated episodes in the show all came out in 2019.
