I don't really see what's really any different about it though? I guess people expected more story beats from the fight itself than just clashing?

so basically Rayleigh didn't have a real opponent in WB's crew. it seems that Oden was paired against Gaban.
it was shown that Rayleigh used a finger coated with Ryuo against Marco.

They didn't do it justice the scene where Roger asks Whitebeard to borrow oden, in the manga when Whitebeard yelled at Roger he tilted the sea and sky with just his voice. Otherwise it was really a good episode they put in a lot of effort animating this

I mean, even in the manga I straight up assumed that the fight between the two crews wasn't really that serious. And even after the event, they were shown partying and overall on good terms, it seems.

Had it been a serious fight for real, the WB pirates would have been obliterated.
