200 seasons? I guess our grandchildren will see the series finale

so did maeda read like 980 chapters in the few months since he was named the showrunner of op or did he read it for years.

because if he reads 980 in just a few months, the informartion you need to process is hugeee…..did he even get anything from that

I think he took a while to catch up and that only recently. But seems like Matt Owens, one of the writers, has been up to date with OP already. And judging by the leaked script he wrote, he does have some good knowledge about the story and even background information. There's even stuff mentioned that was from other sources such as SBS etc.

But I think he tried to grasp information more while reading and maybe that's why he needed more time. He probably discussed a lot with the other writers about the plot in the meanwhile.

Its going to be terrible trust me , Netflix taking the deal and they will ruin the live action .

You guys are being way too optimistic about this live action adaptation.... It’s a good script sure but the casting choices and the direction of the adaption have yet to be seen. There’s also the problem of adapting a surreal world like the One Piece world without diving into the uncanny valley...

I do not want an entire arc about the Arlong Pirates being nightmare fuel that detours casual viewers from One Piece as a whole and sets the series back in the West for another decade.
I dont think they will adapt one piece arcs , it will be just mini movie with different episodes . Netflix does not have time to do romance dawn arc .

I am pretty sure this will not go beyond season 1 !

Judging from the images online I feel he looks too friendly? But still pretty close. But Blackbeard won't appear in Season 1, so that's pretty far into the future

friendly irl, but he can play a funny evil fat guy the best.

Did you read the leaked script? It was Rogers execution as well as Romance Dawn Arc up to Zoro being tied up at the cross in Shellstown. It was really close to the original and they only added more stuff to give a general overview about the OP world (but all of it was based by extra information such as SBS etc)

Of course we can't say for certain yet if it will be good since all the different abilities and character designs might end up looking ridiculous depending on how well they can manage with costumes and CGI.

The same goes for the question if it will receive a second season or will ever be continued. But OP has a lot of potential to even run as a live action. And I think after Death Note etc Netflix and Co already learned to not ruin another manga/anime adaptation, especially the best selling manga work worldwide.

If they do it great but one piece should be anime exclusive . It will be hard to recreate the devil fruit power up and considering how will non anime viewer will react to luffy's devil fruit power ?

I don't think recreating specific abilities in real life is impossible or bad. From the looks of it the script had quite realistic vibes in it. Just because we're used to devil fruit powers only as manga or anime, where animation or art makes it easy to showcase something easily, it doesn't mean it will look bad in real. If we take all kinds of superpowers from hero movies, nobody questions those powers either (not to mention they usually appeared in comics before as well). So I think they will figure something out.

And the same goes with the non-anime viewers. A LOT of people have at least heard of OP. I mean, when I would have asked my class in high school or whenever, and would have brought up One Piece, probably 70% of the people would at least know the basics "oh it's an anime and some dude in a strawhat who can stretch... or something", even though they don't watch anime, but simply because they watched TV as a child. And even if they have NEVER heard about One Piece or aren't fans of anime/manga, I don't think stretching abilities are that weird.

They will need some good CG to make the fishmen look good.

Picturing a live action Hachi or Chu already sounds hard.
I think they'll be fine. The technologies are pretty damn good nowadays. They just need to flesh out the designs in a more realistic way but that counts for all of the designs.

oh finally some news! Isn't it also about time they finish casting?

Hmm, they’re going to film for under six months? That may not be enough time to do the entirety of East Blue justice, if they’re trying to fit it all into a single season as some has posited.
well it is ten episodes. I think that could be enough time to film it but we'll see about that. Live Action will be different and they will probably shorten a few things (while of course adding extra scenes as well just like visible in the leaked script). But all in all I think they will cut out a few scenes that don't work as well in live action or simplify some scenes to make it smoother as a whole. All in all East Blue isn't actually all too long imo.
