black blade is the finally level for swordman before that he has to have adv coa and adv coc (we are seeing how zoro is learning them).
Roger was dead to younger while mihawk has been years to train until he was stronger than shanks and the same roger.
Mihawk 15 years ago=shanks two arms= roger
Mihawk with yoru=ryuma=joyboy>>roger and shanks
Now it's very clear why mihawk doesn't want to fight against shanks

The explanation I think makes the most sense is that the sword didn't recognize him. The swords have already shown their will and as strong as Roger was, he didn't follow the path of a swordsman, so the sword must not have fully accepted his haki to the point of turning black.

Since a Supreme Blade is the highest Quality of Blade, and hardening a blade essentially makes it a "Black Bade" while haki is being applied to it, there is no reason to turn a Supreme Grade blade black permanently, because it's rank won't raise. You're achieving the same thing just by hardening the blade.

Nope.
It would make it a stronger blade than a non black blade. This is why Mihawk counts his sword as the strongest in the world even though it is a supreme grade like the others

Show me where Mihawk says any blade can become permanently black like his.

His words to Zoro was in reference to hardening.
