There can be more than one Town Protect role. Being a Town Protect doesn't make you suspicious. However, being able to protect yourself does.

I asked some experienced Mafia players outside the forum, and their consensus was that in general Town Protection roles usually can't Protect themselves and doing so is bad Town play.

I further checked wirh the mods to see if I could Protect myself, and I was told that "no I cannot".

Claiming that you protected yourself last night is quite the extraordinary claim given that. Claiming that you intend on protecting yourself tonight is outright ludicrous.

I do think I shouldn't have hinted at my role as now I'm a prime target for Mafia Role Blockers. I was a bit too eager to Lynch you when I saw your clearly ludicrous role claim.

How I think we should play tonight:

• Transporter (@Don DaSlayer) switch me and a Scum to (redirect Role Blocks/Kills on me).
• Watcher/Tracker (@NeutralWatcher ) watch someone you consider suspicious. If you don't believe I'm a Protect you can Watch me to confirm, but it's a waste of an action I think.
• I'll Protect the Transporter (or maybe the Watcher), but most likely the Transporter as they may be more useful.

Well when he said he self-protected I had a bit of a giggle and thought he is probably scum as I've never heard of people protecting themselves. But then he doubled down on it and said he would do it again tonight which makes me less sure that he isn't telling the truth. Though why would he not protect someone like Don? Or Neutral?

Like Reborn said, saying you did something on yourself is nice because it makes it less likely that someone can contest that it didn't happen.

With you, I think it was a very bad move to basically claim you can protect. It will also make you sus if he turns out to be town. He is accusing you of framing him. I think Reborn could have sufficiently refuted his 'self-protect' without you giving away key info.

Your plan sounds like a good one. Though I don't know who is more valuable, Don or Neutral. While Don can redirect, Neutral can give us very good info which we are in sore need of due to the cop and potential cop being gone. It's a bit more proactive than the defensive power Don gives us. Though protecting Don is the safer bet.
