Okay, since everyone knows I'm a Sanji fan. I'll criticize him about something no one seems to touch on. Because most of what people touch on him is "pervertness, or not hitting lady, or not using his fists, or other famous stuff for being bashed"
For me, I never cared about those stuff. I liked him for those stuff people hated him for haha. I like that he's not using fists, not hitting a lady (I'm old school, yes come at me modern thinkers) and I love that perverted side of him. It just makes me laugh.
My issue with Sanji is actually something Zeff mentioned/hinted at.
I think the only person who may hold Sanji down is Sanji himself. There is a very fundemental difference that separates Luffy and Zoro from Sanji. And I personally believe that this type of difference is holding Sanji back, and also it does make him progress slower in terms of combat.
And that simply is that Sanji has "wavering will" while Luffy and Zoro are the type of people who have "unwavering will". During Baratie, when Luffy was facing Kreig, Zeff called it out that Luffy has no hesitation, his conviction, he has a spear of will. The same can be applied for Zoro, who faced Mihawk in that arc, and despite how weak he compared, Zoro's own conviction of not backing down despite a stab from the knife close to his heart. That type of firm conviction made Mihawk respect him and announce that he will use his sword to finish Zoro as a respect.
I personally think that Sanji's biggest flaw as a character is that his conviction and will and determination is "shaken" and not as firm as the likes of Luffy and Zoro. And I think if Sanji overcame that, and his will became "iron will" and "unwavering". The amount of progress he can do will be as FAST and as GOOD as Luffy's and Zoro in terms of combat. But personally I think this is holding him back, and it makes him on many occasions and on many fights, somehow lose will or give up or lose faster than the likes of Luffy and Zoro who are the type of "Never give up" characters
I wanted to add something that there might be a uge reason behind Sanji having "shaken will" is MAYBE his past of being bullied as a kid from his family played a part of that. And if Oda touched on the subject of Sanji developing his "will" in future and he refrence his childhood back as a reason for him "doubting" himself and always having "shaken confidence". And Sanji overcoming that. I swear, that would be a great writing. and I would applaud. But with the type of chapters we are getting lately... LOL, I doubt we will have that type of deep writing
