Mihawk couldn't even invalidate Whitebeard's WSM title, which according to you falls short of the WSC title. And out of the living people, he pictured Shanks as the one capable of fighting him. Inb4 you are saying Kaido specifically left out the people that would be able to even defeat him, which would be weird in a statement that asked how high Luffy's ceiling would be.
It would also invalidate not only King's statement (unless you say the mid gen wasn't included due to age, but that would be true for both Mihawk and Shanks), but also Kaido's who said there is no one in the world capable of defeating him and the one destined to defeat him would be Joyboy himself.

Like I said its the authors intent that matters, Rayleigh and Gaban and the whole WBP and RP werent introduced yet. So I mean unless you wanna say WB is a liar which btw Shanks didnt disprove what he said then they indeed fought seriously multiple times.

He didn't have to invalidate WSM, Whitebeard's age and illness did that themselves.
Kaido didn't leave out anyone, to his knowledge, a stronger being than him doesn't exist.
That's why a guy stronger than Shanks isn't among his top 5.

Shanks giving Kaido barrel of wine and telling him not to go to Marineford because Ace is not Joyboy with proof sounds way more plausible.
Moreso when he was expecting Joyboy to show up in Wano and the fact that WB also wanted to make Ace a Pirate King for a reason (he knew all about Joyboy and D clan).

The more I think about it the more I believe that Kaido in fact retreated once shanks unleashed his Haki which shocked Kaidou and pushed him to not wanting a full scale war.
He was wanting to go and kill whitebeard you couldn’t just talk him out of this, Shanks made his aura known to Kaido and used it to prevent him from going over to marineford.
In the panel the marine soldiers were surprised at how quickly shanks neutralized the threat of another Yonko.

Ok lets see what we actually know for a fact :
- Shanks and Kaidou had encounter
- Just day after Shanks arrived quickly without any damage / wound being mentioned or visible
- Shanks is on Kaido list of 5 people capable of fighting him.
This list consists of people with greater portrayal and bounties than Kaido like Roger and Whitebeard and Oden guy who already proved his capability to wound and defeat Kaido were it not for old hag assistance.
This proves Kaido did witness Shanks power , otherwise he would never include him into his list.
Now stacking evidence is that we have Egghead and Wano feats of Haki negating devil fruits power regardless is it logia or zoan type . One of them was Shanks himself with Grenbull but another one was Joyboy haki against Gorosei. Yet said haki used against Gorosei got compared to Shanks own haki power.
Conclusion :
As we saw in first image I provided its said Shanks was involved in minor clashes , that it was minor clash against Kaido is also supported by fact Shanks arrived so quickly without any wounds at Marineford.
People may say nothing happened at all , but if that was case Kaido would not have witness Shanks power so he would not list him as someone capable of fighting him, If he didnt saw Shanks power Kaido would never place Shanks in same basket as Whitbeard and Roger.
Given all this facts and feats we had in Egghead its pretty clear Shanks used his Haki to wifi diff Kaido and made him return home without trying to take Whitebeard head.
