When did Naruto faced off against amaterasu? Since when jiraiya has gaara's defense? Bruh 
gaara defense was not at point here, you just need something on the line of sight to block it.

Though, Jiraiya has absolutely nothing like this so he gets blitzed and curbstomped by Amaterasu, of course.

To be fair, Amaterasu does require build up so Jiraiya could potentially sense it with SM but he has no way to predict when Itachi, who MASSIVELY outscales him in terms of speed, will release the Jutsu so gets shitstomped by it.
People also ignore the fact SM requires a huge amount of time to prep up. If Jiraiya starts the fight in base then Itachi is giving him absolutely no time to rev it up. Jiraiya is a sitting duck then who gets shitstomped.
Even in SM, there's not much he can do. Maybe he can sense some stuff Itachi is gonna do but he can't react to it.
His SM didn't stop him from getting blitzed by fucking Asura Path
Also remember his fastest attack got absolutely neg diffed by an Animal Path Summon. His attack speed will FOREVER cap below this.
There's literally nothing he can do to even touch Itachi in a combat scenario.
The only thing that might work is Frog Song which yet again takes a huge amount of prep time.
So, we're granting Jiraiya:
- Time to rev up SM where he's a sitting duck for however long while Itachi magically does nothing
- Allowing SM Jiraiya to summon frogs while Itachi magically does nothing
- Allowing Ma/Pa to start singing loudly and taking extra time to synchronize their voices while Itachi magically does nothing
...to give him a shot at beating Itachi when Itachi might have a counter for this.
This fight is not close. It should have been obvious when pre pubescent Itachi curbstomped Jiraiya's superior but I guess not. Jiraiya fans will say ABC logic doesn't work and use the Rock Paper Scissor analogy... when Itachi isn't a rock, but a METEOR in this case. A meteor is absolutely annihilating any piece of paper. So the ABC logic DOES work simply because Itachi is just that superior to Sannin level.

Amaterasu and tsukiyomi hard counters jiraiya. Remember tsukiyomi works in seconds so maa and paa can't save him from it either.
A regular ST's range is probably several hundred meters to 1-2 KM. That's not gonna make a difference. Minato put up markings around Juubi without anyone noticing it. That's enough range to cover more than half of if not the whole of Konoha. He can always mark the ground near Pain' location without Nagato noticing if he's keep the Kunai on the battle field. Besides, making Minato get away from the battlefield isn't exactly an effective way to beat him.
